Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms

How about ...

a. DFS and 21, for Bertans and 10?
b. Alternately, DFS and 21 and 22, for THJ and 10?

If you could, would you? Isn't that kind of what we are hoping for, trade-wise, if we move down from pick 10?

A trade of Bertans - either for a player then, or a TE that gets a player later - almost certainly comes at the cost of having a usable MLE (via sw of DB).

So, if the #11 last year was worth 3 protected picks and Tor wants 3 picks for OG, do we have a winning bid for Tor?

#10, Bertans and Green for OG and Achiuwa

We can afford to move off of Green with our glutton of SGs. Conversely, they will need PGs and SGs going forward since it sounds like they aren’t gonna resign FVV or GTJ and with Poeltl onboard, they have a glutton of Cs.

Add the THJ for Brooks SnT and we are pretty solid on defense. Derrick Rose is a name that just popped up and he sounds like a really good choice for that 3rd PG. Is Bullock and Maxi enough for Atl to bite on Capela? We somehow get into the second round and pick up Bates.

Luka/Kyrie/Brooks/OG/Capela
Rose/Hardy/Bates/MLE/Achiuwa

If Luka and Kyrie can’t make that team into a contender, then Kidd has to be fired.

If we could get Jarrett Allen for Bullock + Maxi instead of Capela I'm sold.

I expect a clear cut starter on one of the positions. Someone established, someone that would show that Mavs office actually has any competence at all, since all I have watched so far were 4 years of failures. With the other player I could be more lenient, but I really need to see at least one win. I have no interest to support incompetence.

Agree.  This is the last offseason for them to salvage the team.

Need two front court players that can defend.  Don't have to hit home runs.  Like Clint Capela and DFS level guys.  (not Javale McGee and Crowder level)

Therefore, it's hard to see scenarios where they keep that draft pick.  Josh Green was drafted 3 years ago and is still not a sure fire starter.  I haven't even spent 2 minutes looking at draft prospects.

We had to update the board to keep in line with modern security (and other stuff).

Unfortunately a lot of our old plugins kept making the site glitch out, the like button included.

The only accounts that could add plugins were Kamm, ClutchDirk, and SBJ. So until 1 of them decides to log in and play around with the site, we just have to deal with it.

We can always bring back our old and true "+41"

Is there any way to contact one of these guys and get the account manager keys and/or passwords?  This is kind of like the kid who got mad, picked up his ball, and went home.

I certainly have no idea who anybody is.  Even those who use a name may be a precocious kindergarten basketball prodigy.  Who knows--?

For those who continue working on this site--I salute you.  Thank you!

Ah..."+41".  Now that is an honorable and respectful response.

That is so much better…Thanks.  The Locked On guys had option B on today’s podcast and I liked it when I heard it.  Personally, I like option A better on a stand alone basis.  But, option B may set you up better for other stuff.  You can still S/W Bertans to lower your cap under option B.  I doubt they add two rookies, so you’d also have the extra pick to be combined with other things in a second deal.

I still think Green can be a long-term starter here. I'm holding on to him and using Hardy in an OG deal instead.

I really wonder what #10 can get you. Players like White and Brogdon were acquired by late FRP. Mavs weakness is they don't have salary relief to give. Only Bullock is trully expiring. Capela, Collins, DFS, D.Green, Gafford should be in that late pick teritory. OG, Turner, Hunter or Ayton could be in the #10 teritory. Problem I see is that the tanking teams are really left without anything decent and so far there has been no new team blowing it up. Not much signals Chicago, Washington or Toronto want to go in a completely new directions. So all teams might value those players higher than what they are worth. Since it looks like that majority of the league wants to win. I only have Utah, Charlotte and San Antonio as tanking/developing teams, perhaps Indy. The rest will be likely more interested in decent players and salary relief, but Mavs can't really offer any of that.

In any case, Toronto is the only one of potential tankers with some really interesting players and there might be a huge bidding war for them. OG and #12 for Nurkic and #3 would be more interesting for Toronto than taking #10, for example. Portland could then still use #12 for even another player. Similar deal could be done with Indy (they have #7) for Turner. Same as Portland, Houston will also be likely aggresively looking to add players. Perhaps even Detroit.

I was reading yesterday that the Lakers can only match 4/50 on Reeves. I do not know if this is accurate, but if it is, he's as good as gone. Why don't we trade Kyrie to them for Reeves and their top role players? Reeves and their TDL deadline guys would make a pretty good team around Luka and whatever we do with the number 10 pick.

I know teams were paying for creation of TP before, but this was in cases where player chose to walk to a cap space team. In this case, I think they would consider they are the ones doing Mavs a favor, since Mavs can't sign their guy without their cooperation.

Williams and PJ are both good ideas. Although Williams in this case wouldn't get 20 mil with Dallas, as the TPE would be lower.

I think it depends on the leverage Williams can generate.  It doesn’t have to be Dallas with the cap room.  A credible threat for him to go to a third team with no compensation might motivate Boston to deal for the TPE.

I probably wasn’t clear, but I stated that the Williams offer from Dallas would be $16mm.  The $20mm mention is based on published reports that he wants $20mm from Boston.  He turned down 4/$50mm earlier.

If BKN wants to get rid of Joe Harris, I'd be asking for Sharpe.
Now Sharpe isn't anything special, but his motor is high, constantly active on the boards, constantly screening, isn't a rim protector, but not totally inept at it, and he is surprisingly quick for his size. Probably won't be anything but a backup (specially at BKN), but considering the bar was DP, I'm sure Sharpe is an upgrade and could start with the Mavs.

I'd like to have Oneal and Sharpe to immediately shore-up the front court in one fell swoop.
Pick Lively at 21 and roll-out with a pair of young Cs.

Trade: THJ+McGee+10 for Harris+Oneal+Sharpe+21+22

According to the latest rumors the Lakers aren´t interested. From a Mavs perspective I would be all over a move like this but a double sign/trade deal like this isn´t easy to pull off.

Hollinger and Duncan touched Mavs 10th pick. Mentioned (only) bad salaries Mavs have to offer. They were not sure what you can get for it.

Maybe if the Lakers don't make it past the Nuggets, LeGM will demand Kyrie and then it's a win win for everyone..lol

I think it all depends who the player is. I am really lukewarm on using the 10th pick and other stuff for another high $ player. I would not say I would rule everyone out, but it would need to be the right player in the right package. Dallas invested in Kyrie (time will tell if that is a ticking time bomb) and he is your second star. This team needs 3-4 really good role players over another star. I think this is where a draft pick can help. Heck, maybe that pick turns into much more than a role player. You may not get all four this summer, but you can start laying groundwork. I want a deep, tough team that limits mistakes and wins game.

I tend to agree with most of Iztok's columns and he very well be right, but I tend to disagree with him in his latest column. I am sure they are feeling pressure to get good again. If the right move is there....make it. But don't go all in on a move if it is not the right move.

Dallas is better than their record. This season was a season from hell. Everything went wrong. I feel confident a healthy Luka and a healthy resigned Kyrie with a few slight improvements is a playoff team. I am hoping for more than just slight improvements with the rest of the roster though, but get 10% better on defense and rebounding and clean up some of the other problem areas and this team would have been in the playoffs this year.. You can start laying the groundwork where they are a top 10 team again next year and then look for that final step 6 months to a year from now. My fear is they throw all their chips in this summer and it is for the wrong move that is panicked.

The absolute quickest way to become a top team is for Luka to decide he wants to be the GOAT and get in LeBron shape. End of story. We'll never get over the hump as long as he stays in "OK" shape. He's possibly the most talented basketball player to ever live, but that doesn't matter if he can't do it for 40 minutes a night in the playoffs.

Dumping the pick for another quick fix-attempt that flames out would be hilarious. I don’t know how many times they have to fail
with shortsighted moves like that but I agree, it’s most likely what’s on their minds 24/7 right now and the expected outcome Imo (with the expected horrendous results later on).

Agreed. I hope he is watching his friend Jokic dominate these playoffs and will try to play more like him, even though they are different positions/size. Better shot selection (need LESS of those momentum-killing stepback threes), good FT shooting - just improving those aspects alone would make a huge difference.
