Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms
Might as well throw Cynt Marshall into the trade. Even her best effort wouldn't be enough to keep up the act.

The Knicks, Rockets, Bulls, and Mavericks are teams believed to be interested in buying low on second-year man AJ Griffin who has fallen out of the rotation.

Would you do GWill/Hardy for Bridges/Richards if you knew Bridges was a rental?

I find it difficult to believe that offer would have much of an appeal to Charlotte. What looks like a bad contract and a guy most of Mavs fans wouldn't have any problems trading, which usually means his value is close to zero. Also, Bridges is playing heavy minutes and putting up big numbers in Charlotte, so Klutch is probably satisfied.

Even if Charlotte accepted, the decision still isn't that easy. GW has been awesome at season start. Is it possible to get that player back? If yes, Mavs lose this trade. If I know Bridges is a rental, this trade is basically a GW dump for a back-up center, which might not have a good optics around the league.

I think best move for Charlotte is to SnT Bridges in the summer, if they don't intend to resign him. Cap space teams will likely not offer much for him and SnT is the only option for teams over the cap to get him. Everyone also gets another 40 games and half a year to see how he behaves.

He has a decent contract and there are other ways to keep salary down than his MLE level deal. NO problem is that their stars don't really fit together well. Neither is a shooter or a decent defender. Move one of Ingram/Zion for a better fitting star and Jones contract is gold next to them.

I am not even sure, what would NO look for in such a deal. If their motivation is just to save money, they don't want a long term salary back, but a good player on a rookie deal. They already have enough picks.

But, if he was really available, he would be exactly what Mavs need.

Herbert Jones would be an amazing get for this team. He is one of the best defenders in the whole league, and he has made good improvements to his game on offense too.

Also he has full no-trade clause, and I guess Bridges himself would prefer to stay in CHA and being traded via S&T next summer, unless he gets moved to a team that will have cap space (Philly?)

Like I said, get Hayward with Bridges and you have the money to resign probably both in the offseason.

Green is too much, given, as KL would say, "having to watch Kyle Kuzma in a Mavs' uniform." No more solidly does anyone fit in the Venn diagram juncture of "NBA player" and "douche" than Kyle Kuzma. But he would replace THJ's offensive production while being a slightly better fit. I'd be okay with the deal if it were THJ, Holmes, Hardy, and '27 for Kuzma and Gafford. If it's Green, then the Mavs would have to find a way to win the Grimes sweepstakes in their need for a POA defender while no longer having a FRP to trade.

This is an interesting trade. If Kuz is the excrement sandwich you have to eat to get Gafford, then so be it. And he does have 6th man potential if he were good with that role. Gafford is an excellent addition.  But to get them, it’s going to take something more like THJ, Holmes, Hardy, Omax, and the 1st.  In the short run, that’s a swap of THJ for Gafford and Kuz, a no brainer. Holmes and Hardy have no on court value. Omax has potential and is hard to give up, but maybe you consider it here. It really comes down to over the next three years whether you’d  rather have Omax and THj or Kuz and Gafford.

If you don’t like Kuz and his contract, that’s an insane package for a backup center. Your last sentence is ignoring the first you gave up.

Unfortunately not. Even if Mavs get 30 mil off their books, they still don't have cap space to re-sign Bridges. They would have to clear more like 60 mil of salaries, to get enough cap space for what he will likely command (I assume he will get 20 mil per or more).

I’m assuming with the issues he has $20M is about his cost. How are we not getting that with all the salaries we will have to clear in order to get both at $37M? None of the salaries would be expiring (unless we’re talking about DJJ, which is a drop in the bucket.

If I understand correctly, a trading team doesn't get his bird rights. So the only way to resign him is MLE or cap space. Mavs are projected to be over 30 mil above cap space.

I can see that Hayward may be difficult to sign. I’m assuming he is a MLE target for the league. Sportrac says our max possible cap space right now would be -$9,884,226 (round to $10M). THJ/Holmes/Maxi salaries are right at $40M. The trade? THJ/Maxi/Holmes/27 for Hayward/Bridges/Thor. With rounding, that’s about $28M in cap space.

The Sixers are monitoring Dejounte Murray as a potential trade deadline target, per @PompeyOnSixers (https://www.inquirer.com/sixers/sixers-d...ource=t.co&utm_campaign=edit_social_share_twitter_traffic&utm_medium=social&utm_content=&utm_term=&int_promo=).

The Hawks are seeking two first-round picks and a “player of value” in any Murray trade.

The Raptors are very likely to trade Chris Boucher before the deadline, per @BlakeMurphyODC (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/th...0642268925).

Boucher is the final player remaining from Toronto’s 2019 championship roster.

What about the Non-Bird exception?

Projected cap for next season is 142 mil and Mavs have 172 mil of salaries committed. If you deduct THJ/Holmes/Maxi (40 mil) you get to 132 mil. Not enough cap space to resign Bridges (assuming his price will be 20 mil), even if you sign Hayward into MLE.

Bridges is paid a bit less than 8 mil. So non-bird (120 % of his salary) brings you to less than 10 mil.

Edit: If I understand the non-bird correctly

How low do our morals go?

Miles Bridges checks a lot of boxes. Ideally he fits very well. But between his pending FA status and off court history with a PR shitstorm I would like to avoid, I don't really see the Mavs angle of rehabbing his value only to let him walk away.

For me, with guys like Bridges, they go forever. Just my opinion.

As in you're fine trying to get him? Like you don't care about his off court issues and value the player that he is (which to be fair is pretty much the archetype the Mavs sorely need).

Just want to clarify

The opposite. I'm generally against cancel culture and very pro second chance, but in his case I think he should be out of the league, personally, and were I a governor or GM, I'd have no qualms about colluding to reach that outcome. He'd certainly not play for my team, even at an insane discount.

There are more than enough good players to go around right now.

Jared Schwartz @ New York Post

Bruce Brown on the NYK trade rumors:

“I am a dog,” Brown told The Post on Saturday night prior to the Raptors’ 126-100 loss to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. “I play extremely hard on both ends of the floor. I can do just about whatever [Thibodeau] needs me to do.”

“I play extremely hard,” Brown said. “I would think [I’m] the type of player that he likes.”

“Every time we play Thibs I go up to him and shake his hand, just because of what he’s done,” Brown said. “Nothing but respect for Thibs.”

“I love New York,” Brown said. “I hated New York before I lived here, but as soon as I moved here I loved it. Anytime you want to do something you can go do it. Great restaurants, great city, I love being back.”

Ok glad we're in agreement there.

Miles Bridges in a Mav uniform would make it extremely hard to root for the team.
