SUMMER LEAGUE: TT out w/ groin strain | JG not playing | Mavs go 1-4

3) He's very talented and has ideal measurables, but even with all of that, it's really hard to make it in the NBA, and there's quite a bit to be learned, much of which he wasn't exposed to because he didn't go to a great basketball school. For people in that situation and even many who have had every advantage/opportunity, a tremendous and single-minded work ethic is needed, along with a huge helping of luck, to gain a toehold in the league. He might not ever figure it all out, but it's also possible he'll get it late...age 26? 28? Maybe the Mavs decided they didn't have time (in his specific case) to wait around for all of that.

I think your #'s 1 and 2 are possible, don't get me wrong.

I really thought it would be more difficult than just taking a college big and saying "you have the ideal body for a forward, so you play forward now" but I was sure hoping it would work.

Your #3 is simply a very diplomatic and nuanced way of expressing what boils down to #1.

I may have been his biggest fan....but if I am being honest, he showed me less than JG or even TT when in an NBA game. I think there is a competitive edge and drive that he seems to be missing. Something intangible wasn't there for him, which is unfortunate because he had the ideal body and athleticism for an NBA wing.

I'll be surprised if he ever makes it in the NBA now. Which is sad.

My gawd 00 is an animal. Even at 1:06-1:07 he is out of bounds across the baseline hounding the inbounder. Lol. My goodness!
Thank you Donnie.

Makes me feel better, right now, of course, to presume the former, and therefore not miss him.

I think it comes down to roster spots and the fact that we are now a team looking for veterans with playoff experience to fill out the roster.
Thank you Donnie.

Am I the only one that absolutely loves Hinton. Already showed his great attitude and unwavering support for the team during the season. Always the most active and cheerful guy on the bench. Now he continues to do the same as a representative of the Mavs in off court events and as a leader of the summer league team. He also spent the entire summer in Dallas. Staying connected to the team and working with the coaches. Just have to appreciate the effort and commitment.
Feels like he is already more of an Mavs identity and culture guy than most players on the 15-roster. I really hope that he can develop/showcase the matching on court skills to earn a full roster spot in the coming years.

I'm on board. I was happy about the signing last year and am still cheering for his develpment. His highlight video was my favorite of all the Mavs rookies.

It wasnt only when he was on the bench.  When he came into garbage time he played like it was the playoffs.

He was a favorite of mine prior to that draft so I am a little biased.  His biggest issue for him is that he is not a great athlete.   He shot the ball well in college but we haven't seen enough to make a conclusion if he can shoot well in the pros.  His form looks pretty solid, but his future will be determined largely if he can make open threes.

The positives is he was a great rebounder in college and always seems to find the ball (steals, deflections, etc).    He also has a pretty nice feel for the game with passing.   He was good on defense in college but I haven't see enough of him playing defense in the pros.   My comparison for him from the start is Raja Bell.   That is a big leap to get to Raja level, but I think it is potentially realistic....but it will take time.  Guys with his energy is contagious...his shot will tell us how long of an NBA career he will have.

Lastly, when you are an undrafted guy, you have to have fight and have some dog in you.  You need to earn everything you get.  When you are undrafted, the two options you are given is you will need to win a roster spot next year and not guaranteed or spot or we don't want you back.  It takes time before they view you as they view first round picks.   Everything Nate has done since joining the Mavs has been the right approach.

I am surprised Moses Brown is not playing in the summer league this year.   I think it would be a good opp to see what he has to offer.  He did play a good deal for OKC this past year but there are other players playing who played more for their teams.    Sort of odd.

Is Moses *actually* a Maverick yet? Or is that trade one of the many things currently agreed to but not "official" until after the deadline?

Could we get another mod on board who would be in charge of dealing with all my misspellings and typos?
