Trade & FA 2023-24: PHX Wants Lebron+Bronny| Hawks to Shop Hunter
(07-02-2023, 05:32 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Saw some rumors that the Clippers would like to reduce the payroll. But that was prior to the Harden/Lillard trade demands. Right now they are 3.9m over the 2nd apron.

Zubac + RoCo for THJ would get it done. Clippers save 4.7m. Mavs get stop gap solutions for the front court. Obviously takes the Mavs out of any MLE free agent discussion.

Thanks.  So would the thinking be the Clippers keep Plumlee then?   Not sure THJ would really get a ton of minutes there unless they move some more guys.  Right?

Question: which one would you prefer if they were possible (probably not possible)

Sign Williams, trade for Zubac
or
Sign Plumlee to 1 plus 1 and trade for Williams

I don't think Plumlee is significantly better than Powell or Holmes.

I think option one is cheaper. But also more difficult to pull off. Trading for Williams is going to cost more than a 2030 2nd round pick.

RoCo/Zubac isn´t the only possible combination. It´s possible to expand the trade or exchange a couple of names. Could even try to work them into the Holmes trade.

Can we include Wood in any sort of Allen hypothetical?

Don't get the idea of spending our remaining assets on another 5. We already spent significant assets there. If we don't expect Lively to play heavy minutes by year 2, then he made no sense at 12. In my mind a Holmes/Powell/Maxi stopgap should be fine for one season.

The Timmy for Zubac/Roco does make some sense except there would be no point in signing Powell in that scenario.

Assuming we don't use 27 this offseason, then we basically started with 10 and exceptions. We spent 10 on our biggest needs (4/5) but it will take a little patience. After that move, we were not going to remake the starting lineup this season with exceptions. Getting one of those two RFAs we are targeting with the MLE would be the most we can hope for. It would also make sense if we could send out one of our small wings for a bigger wing, but don't know if that is in the cards.

If you traded for Allen you are most likely including Lively, not the 27 firsts (or maybe it takes both?)

Should also mention that if it really comes down to it the Clippers could simply stretch/waive RoCo.

Curious how the board feels about one of those player vs the other. I love Thybulle and we got an Aussie thing going already but Williams is probably a better fit because his size although at the end of the day you’re probably asking either to guard the same guys.

Either one plus a trade for a center with the scraps (Nurk is starting to make a lot of sense) is a good offseason but still not easy to pull off.
This is where I’m at right now. Williams/Thybulle are the top options in SnT. If we miss out on those I’m looking at Oubre/Saric

Then finish it off by taking Nurkic in the Dame trade

One thing to note is the new rule where you can accept a player via trade using the MLE. This could theoretically happen with Boston if they decided to match Grant but we’re leary of the tax to the point of looking for someone to offload Rob Williams or Horford.

Does a rebuilding Portland team really need an almost 27 yo Thybulle? Mavs should just trade for him somehow.

Then offer GW the MLE if possible. Both of those guys on the roster fit into the culture and fill a void.

Ah ok. Will add an interesting dynamic next year.

Portland wants to get off of Nurkic. He has negative value and it would be an Ayton like move

Dallas gets: Nurkic and Thybulle SnT

Portland gets: THJ and expiring Bullock

Portland could then flip THJ and pickup whatever assets(2nds?) he generates. It could be an even match salary-wise with Thybulle at just under MLE price. Still preserving the full MLE for a G Williams offer

Nurkic/Lively/Powell/Maxi is a decent center rotation for how cheap it would come. Use the Holmes and Mcgee contracts as the next trade matching pieces

Personally, I am really out on Nurkic. Can't switch on anyone. I think there is no chance to build a decent defense with him next to Luka and Kyrie. He also has a not so small contract for three more years. I would really have to believe in Thybulle big time, to take Nurkic money. I don't believe in Thybulle that much.

Zubac would be a personal favorite. Of course my first choice would be for Allen and would make the 2027 1st available. Don't see a realistic deal unless they want Maxi+McGee which I'm not sure they would at all.

If the Mavs could somehow someway grab Zubac acting as a 3rd team in the Harden deal, and Thybulle acting as a 3rd team in the Lillard deal, this summer could still be great.

Probably comparable to other big bodies for the regular season like Adams or Valanciunas. They cannot switch but are willing and able to do the dirty work for 25-30 minutes per game. If Nurkic isn´t throwing a tantrum when he gets benched in late game siuations he would be a good fit.

Have to say…Thybulle talk is scaring me to death.

He’s literally another Ntilikina. A little bigger, but imo he’s NOT a Brown type who can guard bigger guys. Great point of attack defender, but as we’ve discussed at length there are currently like 6-7 players on the roster who will soak up guard minutes. On offense, he’s not much of a shooter and cannot handle the ball to play-make or even dribble. Not the kind of guy I want clogging the books, personally. Full MLE? No, thank you.

Grant Williams would be infinitely better.

Can we send Lively in a trade?  If its Lively and one of our salary filler guards then I am all in.  I don't think it makes sense to send both Lively and the 27.  That is too much.  There are not a lot of options out there where I would send the unprotected 27.  Not for Grant's bloated contract and not for a center.  Siakam would make sense, but I don't think we have the assets to get that done.

We are not going to be a contender this coming season.  Lets get a young defensive player with the MLE and see where we are at after the season.  Then we will have a much younger roster and 3 firsts to trade.  That is when we make the big move.

Don't think so.  I read that the Heat signed their draft pick so he wasn't eligible to be included in Dame trade.
