Kidd is a little snake. He is also angling for the GM position by all accounts. If rumors are to be believed, he also turned in the screws on Nico, once he realized Nico was on thin ice. He specifically put Coop at the point because he was not happy with the DLo acquisition. What other things will he do if he's not happy with some of the moves of the new GM? If I'm a GM, I'm extremely wary of working with him. Sure the GM can cut him loose at that point, but it's so much energy and time wasted.
I hope they hire someone a head coach from the college ranks and hire a young gm like Toronto did. someone not named matt Riccardi who worked with Jason kidd in Brooklyn.

Thoughts of David Griffin? Man, he last two years in New Orleans were not good. Although he had a stretch of some really good moves. Not sure what happened the last two years. Have a supposed super star not be a super star can really mess up plans though. Also, New Orleans could be cursed.
He did do a good job with draft picks later too. Although, some obvious misses too.

DG would be tough to get behind. In light of how bad Nico was, they really need to knock this one out of the park, frankly.
I think Dumont has the money to hire ANYONE he wants bad enough. And I think on some level, he does have management skills. (Who saw Welts coming, for example?)
I'm still focused on Presti.

Dumont has to show something to the fanbase and the world, he will hire the best GM available no matter how much is the price.

I mean, why would Presti want to come here? He’s at the beginning of a potential dynasty he created, and has picks into the 2030’s. This next draft is our last first rounder for 4 years.

I prefer to get Donnie back over Griffin, and this isn't me suggesting to get back Donnie

Interested to see what pieces we have going into the summer. If they trade AD depending on the return probably decided what they do with PJ. Also what draft pick they get. This TDL and summer are probably the most important for a long time since we don’t own picks, we need a GM.

If we are talking pipe dream I am definitely calling Brad Stevens. Try to money whip him. He doesn’t miss much. Also gets off players at good times.

I wouldn't mind this hire at all.
I have the same doubts about the likelihood of this I have about Presti. These guys become successful specifically because they've found a situation that allows them to do their thing with enough support and freedom to follow their instincts. I don't think it's likely to be possible to tear them away, because I'd imagine MOST GM jobs come with silly hurdles you have to jump, even in the best of situations, and Dallas, in the wake of I don't know how many front office controversies over the last decade and the most universally hated trade in recent sports history...well, it probably doesn't appear to be an easy job from afar.
I hope they try for guys like Stevens, Presti, whomever, and I hope they're willing to pay to make something like that happen, if that's all it would take, but in my heart of hearts I don't think they could even get those guys to think about leaving their current situations, and there are probably 4-5 others I'd put in that same category. Ultimately, I just hope the new hire somehow ushers in a sense that they'll be doing things the right way, and that it's ok for us all to feel confident in the team's direction.

So, here's a conversation about the GM search from the Locked On guys. I don't really love the implications of where they seem to believe this is going, so I hope they're way wrong, but it's probably time to discuss it a little.
They don't go into it in this specific video, but I've seen them and others who are plugged in locally suggest that before Harrison was fired, the organization was on a set path towards a reality wherein Harrison got promoted to some newly formed executive role (President of basketball ops, maybe?), Kidd was to be promoted to GM and Sweeny was going to become head coach. There are some in the local media who seem pretty convinced that the new plan is to do all of the above, minus Harrison, of course.
I hope this doesn't happen, obviously. I'm pretty scared.

I don't think Dumont will make that move, he needs a skilled and exp GM to delete the Harrison fiasco... He has to spend money. A lot of Money. And it's right.

More smoke about plan: Kidd to GM, bring back Sweeny to coach. This time from O'Conner (thanks for pointing this out, Dan).
How do we feel about this?

It feels a little incestuous.
I'd rather have a fresh look from someone respected outside the organization. However, I'm not a hater until there's a track record to hate.

The emboldened is a great point.
I just have my heart set on someone who already knows what they're doing, not someone who intends to learn how to do the job, and in this scenario that second concept would extend even to the new head coach.
In the hypothetical abstract, at least, it feels to me like the action of an unserious organization. I think it would be a major missed opportunity.

I know this is going to sound odd, but I kind of like the idea of Sweeny replacing Kidd. Kidd as a coach has been good at times especially in the playoffs. But most of the time, in my opinion, he’s mediocre at best and is absolutely terrible at designing an offense and calling plays especially after time outs.

It is starting to feel inevitable. I don't mind it as long as Cuban is pushed off of the committee. I like keeping Baker and Riccardi and Finley together and bringing Sweeny back. I assume all of those things are part of the package (and part of the attractiveness of the plan).
I think an interesting element of this is watching Kidd's maneuvers as a coach to see if there are tells about what he'll prioritize as a GM. It probably means we don't have to wait on any big deals until the summer, which I also count as a positive.
