Even that is too much imho. I don't think Iggy is enough to make us a contender. So why waste assets on 36 year old vet? Especially one that hasn't played a single game this season. I'm against giving up a lot of assets for him. Maybe if we'd absorb him into our TE for the UTAH 2nd but I'd be hesitant to even offer that from the get go.
Re TJ Warren: DAL had a weird summer, not a good one Imo. Iggy + 1st for caproom would have been great, Warren/#32 for caproom too. Or Harkless +1st
Or signing Russell to a deal. The guy is a 6'5 stud guard in his early 20s who only got available due to KD going to BRK.
We certainly didn't maximize our assets last summer.

Davis Bertans is the one that would be a great get.
Not sure they have enough assets to get him.
But he is expiring and unrestricted, so he may not have as much trade value as expected by his stats.
Hard to know what Wizards's are going to go at the trade period.
They could blow it up entirely or they could keep everyone assuming Wall comes back at a high level next season.

Iggy can be had to anyone for a 2nd round pick and/or equal money. If Mavs want him they need to up the ante, which is why throwing in Seth makes sense, in my opinion at least.
MEM gets a solid veteran to help their youngsters and another pick.
Mavs free up $8M this upcoming offseason. That gives them about $15M of cap space to toy around with next summer. If Iggy wants to come back, it will likely be for the vet min plus you'd have his bird rights iirc so you can go over the cap.
There are other interesting role players on the market such as Bertans, Favors, Forbes, Milsap, etc. but it can also put the Mavs in position to absorb an expiring contract such as OPJ. If THJ opts out, even better!!
Nothing against Seth but he will be 30 years old next season. He is cutting into JJax's/Brunson's playing time, whom the MBT need to figure out what they have in before their rookie contracts start to close.

If they could somehow add Iggy and Bertans then I think they would be solid 2nd in the West behind Lakers.
Still not convinced the Lakers reserves are good enough come playoffs but maybe Lebron and Davis are just so good it won't matter.
Iggy for Lee and 2 future Dallas 2nd rd picks
Bertans for Jackson, Roby, GSW 2020 pick, Utah and Portland 2nd rd picks
Luka
THJ
Bertans
KP
Powell
Bench
Wright
Iggy
DFS
Maxi
Brunson
Boban
JJ

Are you suggesting adding Seth to Lee and a second round pick? If that meets the salary cap requirements?
Do you have any information suggesting Mavs are shopping Seth? He's someone they might actually get something for, rather than having to dump him. There's always at least some demand for a shooter.
I wouldn't add Seth for a few-months rental of Iggy. By the time the Mavs go into contention mode, Iggy will likely be in sunny California, where he has said he wants to play. Maybe that goes to your point of how badly the Mavs really want him. I doubt if they want him badly enough to throw away another useful asset, but who knows. The Grizz are said to want a first-round pick, but the market for Andre may be a little softer than they think. I mean, GSW gave up a first-round pick to get Memphis to take him.

The 1st rd pick was the cost of not having to take any salary back so they could sign and trade for Russell.
But yeah I wouldn't give them more then a 2nd or 2, maybe Roby since his value is basically a 2nd rd pick.

pretty sure DanS regrets it
I liked the idea at the time as a reasonable addition of talent at a very reasonable price. I think it was all but done and Indy outbid us. At the time of the deal (6/20), I don't recall we (the board) knowing Kemba was a no-go yet. So, it was hard to reconcile us making that offer while also having room for Walker.
As the summer played out and we remained an over-the-cap team, trading for Warren wouldn't have made any difference to the rest of our moves. Warren fit into the TPE amount we still have available today. BTW, who was that guy who brought up (on several occasions) that we might operate over the cap? Oh yeah, I remember now.
John Hollinger has an EXCELLENT article up on The Athletic that looks at why this might be a quite TDL https://theathletic.com/1452678/2019/12/...-be-a-dud/
After reading that, I might start sniffing around the Warriors (Looney) or look to be a facilitator of some big deal Portland does for Love that gets us something young for taking on some salary to make the deal work while also getting Portland below the tax.

Looney would be ok.
Lee+Accountant for Bazemore and asset? I think it works.
Gallo makes way more sense for Portland than Love:
OKC: Whiteside+Portland assets
Por: Gallo
Dal: Roberson + Por or OKC asset
I would certainly try to go for Bertans. He would be a killer on the second unit: Wright, Brunson, JJ, Bertans, Maxi. JJ wouldn't have to play 4 anymore

I keep seeing Memphis projections of moving Crowder and obviously they would move Iggy.
IF Dallas were to offer 2 of the lower 2nd rd picks would Memphis move Iggy for Broekhoff and Lee and let Dallas absorb Crowder??

Who knows how much Iggy has left in the tank.
I'm tempted to save that GS 2nd rounder to combine with our 1st rounder on draft night.

It is hard to figure what Memphis actually think they can get for Iggy.
Can't see a team giving a first for him so GSW 2nd rd pick is pretty decent.
Crowder is expiring and not shooting that great so a mid 2nd should be fine.

The trade ideas being floated around about taking on salary by trading Lee to get Iggy should be enough compensation, if they want more, a second round pick swap of Utah's second is what's on the table in my mind. If they include Crowder, and we take on that much more salary to save them that money, I'd give them the Utah second and one of our future second's with a protection. Sure, they can have Broekhoff, maybe even Roby too.

Why is nobody talking about the elephant in the room?
This team needs 1 thing only. Defense. It needs to be able to put a 5 on the court for the last 8-10 minutes of each playoff game that can shut down its opponent.
Who are we going to trade for that allows us to do that?
Our offense is fine. Its good enough to win a championship and then some. Our defense is why we would not be favored against Lakers, Clippers, Sixers or Bucks. Those teams play defense.

(edit) Went back and read a couple articles. He said he wants to play in California, hasn't said he won't play for other teams. However, he reached an agreement with Mem that he won't play for them this season. Mem wanted him to play for them this year and report to training camp.
Are we sure he'd play for us if we traded for him?

Are we sure he'd play for us if we traded for him? I would assume he would have to commit to playing, or else the Mavs wouldn't acquire him. But even if he plays for a few months, I think they would have to think there is a good chance they wouldn't be able to re-sign him, since he wants to be somewhere else.

He will play here. Mavs are a legit contender this year, which no one knew last summer. Iggy is a super interesting guy and a tech startup funder/entreprenuer from his time in Silicone Valley. I could see he and Mark hitting it off great.
And if Memphis thinks they can get better than the GSW 2nd round pick, best of luck to them. I dont think it is likely. No way Mavs trade Seth. He is a vital asset to this team.
