RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Mavs interested in DFS, Wiggs, PJ| POR wants to keep Grant - Winter - 01-17-2024 Nope. That feels like a sideways move than anything addressing need. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Mavs interested in DFS, Wiggs, PJ| POR wants to keep Grant - Smitty - 01-17-2024 (01-17-2024, 06:58 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: I was checking Raptors Reddit and someone had options of which team they would like to move Brown to. For Dallas the package was Holmes, Josh Green and a second round raptors pick that Dallas currently owns supposedly. I am not even sure if that trade is legal. Would u do it though? I would say no but wanted to see if others have different takes. Brown is a better player currently, I think. He is 5 year older but still 27. Team option next year on a bloated contract. No, not even if the Raptors were the one sending the pick. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Mavs interested in DFS, Wiggs, PJ| POR wants to keep Grant - surfpuckmd - 01-18-2024 Christian Koloko was waived as part of the Siakam trade yesterday. He was one of the better rookies in the NBA last year so this is really surprising. He has missed this entire season thus far due to a vague "respiratory issue". It must be something career-threatening for the Raptors to give up on this promising young player. Nevertheless, I think the Mavs should take a gamble on Koloko. If he recovers, he gives a really talented defensive big. We would have to cut Markieff Morris who is useless. Why not make a bet on Koloko for the rest of the season? RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Pascal wants to test FA. |Shams: PHI to be aggressive - DanSchwartzgan - 01-18-2024 (01-17-2024, 12:24 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: @JakeLFischer Wiggins and PJ both look like crap so far this season. Both have the potential to be buy-low swings that can pay off nicely. Both have the potential to just be dead weight on the cap. Given what we might be willing to give up, these two seem more likely than DFS. IOW, Wiggins/PJ is a different type of conversation than DFS. Neither Wiggins nor PJ is a game changer...small incremental change depending on the outgoing. But, the outgoing shouldn't be that much in the case of PJ and you might even get an asset for taking on Wiggins. PJ is a declining salary that runs the same length as Kyrie's contract. You can get him with less outgoing salary (need $9.35mm) versus Wiggins (need $16.8mm). The Wiggins deal runs a year longer and escalates. He's a bigger financial risk, but peak-Wiggins is the better defender on a team that needs more D. My guess is the PJ deal would be Holmes and an asset (Holmes plus Hardy keeps Dallas barely under the tax). He hasn't played well enough to garner much more than that. I like the Hardy fit with Ball, Miller and Williams. Wiggins would probably be Holmes/GWill and maybe something coming back to Dallas. I could see GS doing this if Holmes was expiring. If that were the case, they could lower salary while letting GWill take on the role Wiggins fills for that team. Maybe GS pays someone like Washington to take a year of Holmes in their TPE. People can add 2nds and other players around the fringes, but that would be my guess in terms of the base assets to be dealt if something like this were to happen. Given what we might be willing to give up, these two seem more likely than DFS. IOW, Wiggins/PJ is a different type of conversation than DFS. Wiggins is broken and I think there are too many red flags there to risk taking on that contract. Among players this season with more than 700 minutes, Wiggins has the 4th worst EPM in the NBA. He has been equally bad on offense and defense. His shooting percentages are terrible. If he were recovering from a significant injury, there might be some hope. That hasn't happened though. There is something else going on there. I think his leave of absence last season is also a concern. He missed two months of the season with the explanation that he was taking care of his father. That seems admirable but I do think it's odd that no details were released of his father's illness. I think that raises the possibility that it was an excuse for a different issue that Wiggins was dealing with. If Wiggins were playing better this season, it would be an afterthought. It's the combination though that is worrisome. Wiggins from a couple seasons ago would be an amazing addition here. I worry that we'll never see that player again and I wouldn't want his contract. Ben Simmons may possess the only worse contract in the NBA. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Mavs interested in DFS, Wiggs, PJ| POR wants to keep Grant - SleepingHero - 01-18-2024 (@TheDunkCentral) Quentin Grimes is reportedly frustrated in New York and the Knicks are ‘actively’ trying to trade him, per @SbondyNBA The Dallas Mavericks are a team with interest in Grimes “There's also speculation that Thibodeau soured on Grimes for sitting out the last two games in the playoff series against the Cavaliers because of shoulder injury.” RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Mavs interested in DFS, Wiggs, PJ, and Grimes? - KillerLeft - 01-18-2024 I honestly hope Wiggins isn’t even really being considered. I would rather have PJ Washington than DFS, I think, but DFS is always welcome to come home, obviously. Right now we have a logjam in that area with Hardaway, Curry, and Hardy. If we move THJ in a trade for a big, Grimes would slide perfectly into his role. I assume that Fournier would have to be attached since Grimes makes so little. What would we offer up for a package of Grimes/Sims/Fournier? Would kick the can down the road a little bit on a starting PF but he would be a great 3 next to Luka and Kyrie longterm. True 3 and D sort of player. Feels light plus gives them salary next year to deal with. Lively has been really good but he has slower feet. So I like Claxton's fit on a team with Luka better. Kyrie, Grimes, Luka, Jerami, Claxton If the Mavs FO also swapped Kyrie for Dejounte, I would not complain, although Kyrie has been really good here. There's multiple reasons to do the trade: get something of value back from the trade, lower salary, improve and become more switchable on defense, get younger. Additional possible positive... the influx of lean, fit, athletic players like Claxton, Murray and Jerami might influence Luka to get and stay in even better shape. It's not likely, but it's possible. I would think the nets are selling everything but bridges and Claxton (and probably Thomas). NY beat writer from the Athletic said Knicks are looking secondary creation behind Brunson, a player with a contract around 20 mil who has a contract for next season too. Even mentioned THJ as one example. I like Grimes, but he sort of overlaps with Green and Exum. But, Fournier and Grimes (and hopefully another asset as THJ is the best player in the deal) would give us even more flexibility in the summer. And Fournier used to be in the THJ quality range before Thibs decided to not play him anymore. But, as others mentioned, NY seems to be interested in Brown.
