RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - RoyTarpleysGhost - 01-15-2024 I’d drive Green to the airport myself for Gafford. Gafford is a lob threat and shot blocker. Fits perfectly here. Play him and Lively 24 minutes a game. No more small ball. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - loki - 01-15-2024 (01-15-2024, 04:38 PM)Winter Wrote: You think Green is a starter when everyone is healthy? Am I interpreting that right? Gafford plays more minutes per game the Green does even when Green starts (as well as more points). Yes, I would start him over Exum. I think that Green playing up to his potential on a consistent basis would be a huge difference maker for this team. I have no problem dealing with the ups and downs in the short term. The coach clearly doesn't agree, but that may change eventually. I don't mind Luka/Kyrie/Exum getting some minutes together. That could be a dangerous lineup to pull out late in games. But the rotations are a bit odd when they all start. You have to do a lot of juggling to keep 2 of the 3 on the floor at all times. And as Mavs2021 said, backup centers routinely come cheaper than this. Green for Gafford is terrible asset management in my book. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - RoyTarpleysGhost - 01-15-2024 Gafford is a productive starter in this league. Josh Green is not. That’s a current fact. And because of the tax implications and the PP issue, there would have to be pieces added on both sides to get just the right balance of salary and value. Yeah, I was just coming up with something off top of my head that fit the parameters that seemed reasonable (given the likes and hates, I probably got the reasonable part right) but I forgot about Josh contract. Maybe Holmes + Hardy + 2nds for Gafford? That seems light on our side. I would probably do Williams + Hardy for Gafford, but we would be light on PF depth. I just think there's never been a season in 4 years where that's been true. I'm pretty comfortable with Exum though - and I'm guessing he stays where he is in the starting lineup. And if decent backup centers are easy to get, we'd have one. I can certainly find things to like about Green, particularly his speed, but I don't feel a pressing need to have his energy over a rim protector and rebounds. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 01-15-2024 WCJ back in the lineup for Orlando and looked good. I think he would only make sense on this roster if Maxi was gone. Going to be really interesting to watch Maxis ply over the next couple weeks, if he plays well it could change the perception of needs but if the FO thinks they need someone more reliable health wise then I would assume their shopping him regardless of play. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - Chicagojk - 01-15-2024 Green for Gafford is a relatively equal trade. I wouldn't do it though. Green has frustrated me this year and I have now have legit questions about him fullfilling the role I had envisioned. I just think his role I envision is more important then the role Gafford would play. For this year it is debateable though. Maybe this is false hope, but Lively, Powell and Maxi is a good enough center rotation. There are plenty of risks there though (Lively hitting the wall, Maxi being healthy and being a good player, and over extending Powell). Maybe Gafford is better than Lively now, but I would guess not. I just wouldn't burn the Green asset on him. Hopefully Green puts together a strong stretch and make us all glad he is here. Him hitting two big threes in two of the last 3 games will hopefully help his confidence. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - loki - 01-15-2024 (01-15-2024, 06:24 PM)RoyTarpleysGhost Wrote: Gafford is a productive starter in this league. Add a backup (for Hardy and/or 2nds) who can bring 80% of what Gafford provides and you don't have to deal Green. That just creates another hole on the roster. I just see his ceiling as being much higher than Gafford's, and I don't think a Green for Gafford trade vaults this current team into contention. Other teams don't seem to struggle to find backup bigs to the same degree the Mavs do. It's too bad they prioritize re-signing cheerleaders or friends instead of using those roster spots to find useful players. I'm not convinced they would cut Morris if Drummond were waived and said he wanted to be here. I'm not a fan of the Morris signing, but I'm having a hard time slamming the FO for back of the roster signings given we are starting two of them and the roster in general went from paper thin to one of the deepest we have had in years. Its also hard to convince centers looking for minutes to sign with you when you already have 4 on the roster. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - The Jom - 01-16-2024 Maxi is a center. Adding another 5 who can’t stretch the floor is a priority? Yuck. Hope not. Spend your assets on a hard-nosed, rebounding, defending 4 who can hit open 3s. Or save them till you can. You're adding much needed rebounds in Gafford - who also play some PF. And at least one of our centers - Holmes I assume - will be outbound because he's not playing. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - Jason Terry - 01-16-2024 WCJr and Isaac for THJ and Holmes even swap is a match This would leave us with plenty of 4/5 depth: Lively/WCj GWill/Isaac/Maxi We would only need 2 of 3 of WCj/Maxi/Isaac to be healthy at the same time There would be a scoring hole, but we could address that in the summer. We would still have all our picks and young players to make a big trade for a 3rd scorer. Could still make room for DJJ easily RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Hawks spoke to Lakers and Heat about Murray| MIA wants Mitchell - MFFL - 01-16-2024 (01-16-2024, 10:10 AM)Jason Terry Wrote: We would only need 2 of 3 of WCj/Maxi/Isaac to be healthy at the same time That's asking a lot based on history Jason Terry - Jason Terry - 01-16-2024 (01-16-2024, 10:20 AM)MFFL Wrote: That's asking a lot based on historyWe would still be fine if only 1 of 3 were healthy. The Hawks are in the exploratory phase of trading Murray, who is getting strong interest due to his play on both ends, great image and manageable contract. When asked how he is staying focused amid trade rumors, Murray said, “I know what the main goal is. The main goal is today. Today I’m an Atlanta Hawk and that’s all that matters. Help do my job and try to get a win. That’s the most important.” Murray has said he would “welcome” interest from his beloved Popovich and the Spurs in an NBA TV interview and there have been reports that the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors are intrigued, too. (@FredKatz) The Knicks are actively fielding offers for Quentin Grimes, according to rival executives who've been in contact with them, and are hoping to land facilitating help behind Jalen Brunson.
