In regards to the other stuff, if all it took was #10 for Allen I'd be all for a deal centered around that. I think Cleveland has their sights set on something bigger perhaps. Maybe a 3 team trade where Allen is sent somewhere, other players are sent to Toronto, and Siakam heads to Cleveland.

Something like that.

Maybe the Mavs can fill in the 2+FRP for a Siakam trade, but I think we'd all rather want him over Allen if we're gonna be fronting the bill in this hypothetical random scenario.

As for your 2nd deal, Kyrie for Jrue+Allen. That's not a bad one. I think Jrue would be incredible here. Although he does look like he's lost a slight step. He's also openly contemplated retiring after his current contract, so I'm skeptical about his full commitment (which is ironic given Kyrie is the other option).

Don't know if this has been posted, but the Wood situation is puzzling.  How you can't give a 20pts/10rbs/2.5blk big who can shoot 40% from 3pt at least 30mins a game is beyond me.  If Kidd can't figure that out, he shouldn't be coaching in the NBA.

Highlights from the article...

“He gives us a dynamic that we haven’t had in a long time,” Cuban told NBA.com in January. “He’s somebody who can post up, make a 3, attack, close out, block a shot, and rebound. He’s really helped us."
Cuban also stated: "We'd like to keep him."

The Mavs' most successful stretch of the season included a 9-4 record when Wood started next to Luka Doncic - yet the only reason he was even inserted into the starting lineup was due to Maxi Kleber tearing his hamstring. In 17 starts overall, Wood averaged 20.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks. He was a fixture in the team's social media campaigning for All-Star voting, as he was included in more than 20 Twitter and Instagram posts in addition to being included in many American Airlines Center promotions. Among Western Conference front-court players, he finished 10th in player voting and 19th in fan voting.

Despite the success Wood achieved in a starting role, and having earned the right to be one of three Mavs players — Doncic, Wood, and Spencer Dinwiddie — included in the team’s All-Star campaigning across its social media channels, he inexplicably had his playing time sharply reduced with the trade deadline looming. He received under 20 minutes in his first four games back from injury, which included the Feb. 9 trade deadline occurring after the second of these performances.

Wood never even touched 28 minutes in a game until March 15 — a double-overtime victory against the San Antonio Spurs with both Doncic and Kyrie Irving sidelined. With dwindling playoff odds, the Mavs needed to win to survive. They ran their offense through him in overtime for reliable offense, he finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds, often being the focus of Horns sets in the half-court.

This year was important year to see if Wood could be a productive performer on a good team.  He failed.   He will be somewhere else next season and will see how much blame the Mavs deserve.  I left the season thinking we didn't help our players putting them in good positions where they could find success.    So I guess I am not sure if Wood or the Mavs (probably a combination of the two) deserve the bulk of the blame.

I was thinking of the teams who would make you say Aw Crap if Wood were to sign with them.  I think the Heat would be my #1.    I do wonder what he prioritizes this offseason and what type of contract he gets.   Even though it appears the market was nil for him at the deadline, I could see teams talking themselves into him and going aggressively at him this summer.

I wouldn't say he failed.  20/10/2.5 at 40% at 3pt when he started certainly isn't a fail.  I think Kidd had a disastrous season.  First letting the FO flub up resigning JB.  Then allowing the McGee signing.  Then never getting a rotation that worked with Wood.  And for a grand faunally, effing up adding Kyrie to the rotation.  Let's face it, the dude can't scheme himself out of a wet paper bag.

I wasn't impressed by Wood. I think he played himself to the bench ultimately, because of his defensive issues, and never embraced the idea of being an offense-adding 6th man to the point the Mavs just decided to give the minutes elsewhere. Whining gets old, and reports say his people kept whining and creating drama. And unless he is willing to embrace a backup role, I suspect other teams will not see him as a fit on their team either because they don't want the drama he will bring when he isn't used like HE prefers.

20/10/2.5 on 40%3pt doesn't lie.  Clearly Kidd has something personal against him and wanted to make a point in trade for him.  Once Kidd is ousted, which his shit always gets old, we'll look back and say "god, he screwed that up".

I just can't see that.  The Mavs organization has never made decisions that way - it's always a collective thing, with input from several people.

If it really was a personal vendetta Kidd had against Wood, other cooler heads would have prevailed, or, if it really was an unworkable arrangement, traded Wood for something that was a better fit.

-Nash
-Brunson
-Blowing up the title team
-Plan Powder
-Only one title with DIRK.
-Don’t care about the draft
-TONS of other examples

But I’m certain they handled the Wood situation perfectly.

Selective stats sliced from a very small sample size are not a reliable indicator of anything. Unfortunately.

Or as Mark Twain would say, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

From the 17 games he started.  You don't think that was proof he should have started more???

As Charles Dickens said "when you have a big who shoots 40% from trayland, that stretches the defense and opens up drives to the basket".

Nope. In those 17, while the stats looked good, Wood was a combined -33, showing his impact was likely just on one end of the floor, while giving back more than he added. If we're using SSS stats, those show there's more to the story.

I wasn't impressed by that stretch because the competition in that 17 was way inferior. They only played 3 of the better teams in that 17 games, going 0-3 vs CLE, BOS, LAC.  And that was the stretch when they mostly played the dregs of the league, with 3 vs HOU, 1 vs SA, 2 vs LAL (while they were still awful before their big trades), 1 vs CHI, 1 vs NO, 1 vs POR, 1 vs OKC, and with Luka having to do superhuman things to pull out wins against several of those scrub teams.

How many of those 3 did Luka play in Chief?

The Dallas Mavericks had a record of 9-4 when Luka and Wood both started.

Don't really care. The arguments keep trying to use minor oddities to prove he was all that (when we all saw he wasn't). The idea the Mavs decided to self-sabotage has always been weak. Makes me glad he's as good as gone so we can move on.

Dougie, bubbie, that 9-4 stretch:

MIN: L
MIN: W
HOU: W
LAL (Pre trade+No AD): W
NYK: W
HOU: W
SAS: W
HOU:W
BOS: L
NOP (no Zion, Ingram, or CJ): W
LAC: L
LAL (Pre-trade+no AD): W
ATL: L

So 5 out of the 9 wins came against teams literally trying to lose, or were injured beyond belief. 2 came against the Lakers who were one of the worst teams in the NBA pre-trade and didn't have Davis. The NYK win was incredibly impressive, but took a Luka miracle and a 60 piece to just eek it out in OT.

Further in games where Wood started but Luka was out, Mavs posted a 0-4 record with losses against the Bulls, Cavs, OKC, and Blazers. And this was at the point of the season where all of them weren't even close to playoff positioning.

And in the nine wins, Powell actually had a better On-Off than Wood.  Hard to argue Wood starting is somehow the reason for those wins when another center actually had a greater impact on winning.  I'm with FG.  Ready to move on.

I mean, what would have been if only Powell was starting those games, right? Amirite?

9-8 vs 24-38 that is the mic drop stat between the two. Powell is not the better starter between the two players.
