RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Isaiah Stewart gets 4/64 from DET| ATL wants Siakam? - The Jom - 07-13-2023 (07-13-2023, 07:51 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: The reports say they will bring him along slowly. That doesn’t scream “thrown into the fire” to me. Last year reports said McGee would be the starter. Same same. Defense is why rooks can’t usually stay on the court. Offense is why they can’t close out the 4th. Lively gets minutes early as long as he can find one offensive skill that has to be guarded. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Isaiah Stewart gets 4/64 from DET| ATL wants Siakam? - KillerLeft - 07-13-2023 I think the disagreement lies in specifics. I read “four year project” and “only 12 minutes per as a rookie” as being WILDLY different takes. Night and day. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Isaiah Stewart gets 4/64 from DET| ATL wants Siakam? - SleepingHero - 07-13-2023 Report: DLive wants to become a starter ? #MFFL per Dalton Trigg RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Isaiah Stewart gets 4/64 from DET| ATL wants Siakam? - ItsGoTime - 07-13-2023 McGee did also start, until he proved he wasn’t the man for the job. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Isaiah Stewart gets 4/64 from DET| ATL wants Siakam? - SleepingHero - 07-13-2023 I know we've been talking to death about Capela, but I'm gonna throw out a pretty off the wall kinda trade that doesn't really make sense but was a fun thought experiment. Chicago has been in the rumors at shopping Lavine, but they also resigned Vuc. I don't really know what direction they're going in, but whatever it is I wonder if they'd be interested in trading DeRozan+Drummond for THJ+McGee+2027 1st (unprotected) +2 2nds. Seems pretty expensive. But the Mavs get their starting 3 and presumably the center they were vying for at the beginning of free agency. Would ya if Chicago came calling and asked for that package? RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - SleepingHero - 07-13-2023 Supposed Hawks insider updating his squaks on the Siakam trade. If this is to be believed then Masai is truly holding everything up and is vying to get more for Siakam. Are we the 3rd team in this supposed 3-teamer? It makes too much sense not to right? Even in the Towns trade, there were rumors the Mavs were in talks with Minny. Perhaps it was always to act as a 3rd team in a potential Towns trade. I have seen that in multiple places. I doubt they got very far, given the assets they have at hand, but I believe they were interested in some level. Scary, I know. Hopefully, the same “we’ll take Capela” opportunity will exist if ATL pivots back to Minnesota. Hard for me to think Min will get much value back. That contract is ridiculous 2026-27 $57,124,200 2027-28 $61,063,800 RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - SleepingHero - 07-13-2023 (07-13-2023, 10:19 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Believe it or not, I think the Mavericks actually kicked the tires on Kat this summer. I actually think KAT's salary will be such a ballast that he'll go for a lot cheaper than we all are assuming. Like maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe a single first kind of cheap. Even at that price I'd rather the Mavs steer clear. KAT's attitude is such a loser mentality I couldn't stand him on the Mavs. Sure he's talented, but it'd be almost sacrilegious to bring the guy that automatically thinks he's the best big man shooter of all time when he's won 3 playoff games in his entire 8 year career (*on 33% 3pt shooting!) I think the Capela angle works for both deals thankfully as the money for Siakam and KAT are pretty similar. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - KillerLeft - 07-13-2023 SH, we will always have KAT: the one corner of basketball where we can agree. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - The Jom - 07-13-2023 This thread in newsless days adds perspective. Like it. You all have convinced me that Kleber + Lively (or Powell if Lively can’t stay on the court) likely covers 32 minutes of center. Hard to get discouraged about 16 minutes of unknown. Hard to envision giving up much value in a trade to fill those minutes either. Must not be offering much for Capela, I would think. I clearly remember dissertations and bunch of advanced stats on this board showing, how Kleber as the single big doesn't bring a positive team result RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - ThisIStheYear - 07-14-2023 The Mavs have tons of guards, tons of centers, and two forwards (Josh and THJ are guards and struggle against forwards). Luka can play forward, but I’d rather not. Maxi can play against plodding forwards these days for a few minutes. This idea that a center is needed is wrong. We’re okay with Maxi, Lively, Holmes, and Powell splitting 48 minutes. It could be 12 a piece for all I care. But we have 96 forward minutes and are about 48 minutes short on players with the size and speed combination to take that role. We failed last year mainly because the Josh and Bullock combo couldn’t get it done. We need a third, long, skilled, high quality forward. Luka is a forward on defense, or you're losing far more games than otherwise. He guards the weaker of the two forwards. If you're going to settle for Kai, Luka, Hardy, and Seth guarding the other teams' backcourts, you'd better hope that DL2 is ready for 48 minutes a game to play goalie at the rim. Unless, of course, Exum's offense has improved so astronomically as to merit his getting 6th man minutes. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - Mavs2021 - 07-14-2023 Something that could work in theory and have to wait till Bufkin clears: Clippers: Harden 36M (outgoing Covington + Mann + Batum 33M) Hawks: Siakam + Covington 50M (outgoing Bogdanovic + Hunter + Bufkin + Johnson 47M) Mavs: Capela 20M (outgoing THJ 18M) 76ers: THJ + Bogdanovic 37M (outgoing Harden 36M) Raptors: Hunter + Mann + Bufkin (after the 30 days) + Johnson + Batum 49M (outgoing Siakam + Young + OPJ 52M) Spurs dumpster: Young + OPJ 14M Now I let you figure out who gives picks to whom here, specifically the Spurs. I assume the Sixers would ask for a pick(s), too. Mavs, Hawks, Clippers and Raptors are probably fine. If Minnesota is going to wait on Bufkin, why wouldn’t Toronto do the same. Aren’t they just as devoid of PG play? Trade machine says that’s 8/3 rather than ‘sometime in September’. We failed last year mainly because the Josh and Bullock combo couldn’t get it done. We need a third, long, skilled, high quality forward. I agree that we need another power forward type to complete the rotation. Dwight Powell is a reasonable stopgap and has demonstrated positive value on the court for several years as the starter. He may become useless in the playoffs but he can manage as our starter this year. Maxi can cover some minutes at center then Lively is obviously the future there. I think Lively can start to earn some regular rotation minutes as the season goes on then will be ready to play 20-25 minutes per game next season. I would rather not spend assets on a center for this year when we have invested our best draft pick in years on Lively. Importantly, we can obtain a decent, young, power forward time through free agency without sacrificing yet more draft picks. There are a few talented players left we could acquire for a portion of our MLE. Derrick Jones Jr is the best but Darius Bazley is already a good defensive player and has improved his 3-point shooting. Both could contribute as the 10th/11th man and are both young with the potential for development and improvement. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24:Harden adamant for LAC| Potential 3-teamer for Siakam lined up? - Branduil - 07-14-2023 The Mavs clearly signed Williams to be the starting PF, he'll probably get around 30mpg. And then you have Omax, who if he's as good as he seems, is gonna demand minutes. After that you have Maxi who can play PF if needed, and even Luka in a pinch (though not ideal). Not sure where these PF minutes are supposed to come from. |
