RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - Branduil - 07-06-2023 Can we not ruin a good day by talking about adding Ayton RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - F Gump - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 01:58 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: One thing about losing Reggie is we no longer have expiring money in 24. To me, he was the relief valve for staying under the second apron once Green gets extended or paid in free agency. I do find it interesting that as the Mavs have moved out a player salary, they replaced it with one about the same size. Wood replaced by GW, Bullock replaced by MT. (To me that speaks to the likelihood - imo, none - of adding Ayton.) They have a general financial model for spreading their available payroll, I would think. About Green and his financial fit -- is he a better player than Thybulle? Is he as good as GW? Doesn't the 4/70M concept for Green the RFA seem ridiculously high, in the light of the offers we are seeing? I think we need to weigh these real life comps, in trying to anticipate what Green will cost (and what he's really worth). RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - SkenfromLMF - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 02:28 AM)Branduil Wrote: Can we not ruin a good day by talking about adding Ayton You know who would look good as the C on this team with 2 scoring guards and athletes lining the wings? Do NOT look at salary charts - But Ben Simmons would be a fit with this team. There you go, you aren't so disgusted by Ayton anymore are you? RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - F Gump - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 01:58 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: I don’t recall who said it, but I now wonder if Thybulle doesn’t bump the chances of Josh being included in a trade for a center. Ayton has been brought up. Holmes + Josh for Allen? Atlanta wanted Josh…Holmes and Josh for Capela? What about Holmes, THJ, Josh, 2027 for Siakam? McGee and Josh for Zubac? I don't think Josh gets traded if MT gets matched, but seems like the addition of MT could make him expendable, like you are thinking too. Here's #1 on my wish list for such a deal: Holmes-Green for Gafford-Kispert RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - KillerLeft - 07-06-2023 I agree with the logic being applied about roster balance, and maybe even about avoiding Green’s 2nd contract, although I think FGump has the right of it when he suggests we might be guessing way high about those numbers. But, I think it would be a major mistake to view Thybulle as someone who makes Green superfluous. Green has sooooo much more offensive feel than Thybulle already, and he’s like 6 years younger. I would MUCH rather have Green, given the choice. There are people in this community still refusing to acknowledge green as a good prospect because he’s not confident enough with his offensive game. Let me humbly suggest that those folks are not likely to care for the Thybulle experience much at all. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - DanSchwartzgan - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 02:56 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: I agree with the logic being applied about roster balance, and maybe even about avoiding Green’s 2nd contract, although I think FGump has the right of it when he suggests we might be guessing way high about those numbers. Wasn’t that Hollinger’s guess? Everyone here, even me thought it was high. I’ve been at a $14mm average and I’m not dissuaded by the numbers Williams got. Josh has more upside. I certainly don’t want Josh gone, but do worry it may make sense from future salary standpoint and from the standpoint of what it might take to secure a starting center. Go Nico! RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - omahen - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 03:06 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: Wasn’t that Hollinger’s guess? But all his valuations seemed unrealistically high. I wouldn't put any weight on it. I think GW type of deal is a fair deal based on what Green has showed so far. Even if he decides to bet on himself, Mavs are able to wait until his RFA. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - RGP1981 - 07-06-2023 What are the chances of doing these moves after signing Grant Williams and if Portland does not match the offer to Thybulle? Trade THJ + Josh Green + McGee to Cleveland for Jarrett Allen + Isaac Okoro Trade Holmes to Charlotte for PJ Washington Luka.................. Curry, Exum Kyrie.................. Okoro, Hardy Thybulle............. Williams Washington........ Kleber, O-max Allen.................. Lively, Powell That asking for too much or are too pie-in-the-sky? I very much doubt GW signed that deal without a promise he will be a starter RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - omahen - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 03:15 AM)RGP1981 Wrote: What are the chances of doing these moves after signing Grant Williams and if Portland does not match the offer to Thybulle? Stein thinks Mavs don't have the assets for Allen. I don't think Josh Green has that much value. I think he is somewhere on par with Okoro. So, if you exclude their equal value, you have THJ+McGee for Allen. I doubt Cleveland would have any interest in this. Even if we add 2027 pick. In my opinion, Cleveland would trade Allen if they are getting better. They just signed three wings and have no use whatsoever for THJ. Even Green would be difficult to get minutes behind Mitchell and their newly signed SF brigade. What they could use would be a big wing to play next to Mobley or a better fitting center next to Mobley at PF. The theory of Kleber would fit description of this kind of player, but we all know about his durability issues. I doubt a contender would count on Kleber as their high usage starter. That is why I find a direct Mavs trade with Cleveland unlikely. Perhaps, if we could get in with our assets in a deal with a third team who has the piece for Cleveland but doesn't really need Allen. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - omahen - 07-06-2023 Siakam situation seems to be very complex. According to different rumors, he wants to stay in Toronto and is saying he doesn't want to resign with any other team (Haynes), so basically you are trading for a rental. Offers are naturally low because of that. On the other hand, the young guys (Barnes, OG) want him gone as they want bigger role and more shots. Looks like they had serious locker-room issues last season. Toronto on the other hand seems to still want moon and the sun for Siakam. They want to remain competitive and want more than just young guys and draft capital for him. Looks like Atlanta is trying really hard to get him (Stein and other less reliable sources). In my opinion, Mavs don't really have a shot here. The assets they can offer are not great. Salary matching would be THJ and Holmes. Two long term salaries Toronto doesn't need as they have their SG and C position covered. They need a PG above anything else. Green, Hardy and 2027 doesn't give enough motivation to Toronto, imho. Other teams can provide better offers. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - ItsGoTime - 07-06-2023 Yesterday was an amazing day. The next two days hopefully continues that trend (Thybulle and a C). Let me just suggest though, that if Thybulle is matched and all we find is a taker for McGee and a SRP, this team is still leaps and bounds better than last year’s starting team: Luka/SD/Bullock/DFS/Powell Frank/THJ/Green/Maxi/Wood Hardy/Pinson/Bertans/McGee Vs Luka/Kyrie/Green/GWill/Holmes Seth/Hardy/THJ/Maxi/Lively Exum/OMax/Powell I think our team this next year looks extremely better, at least on paper. Having the benefit of hindsight, the chemistry could just be good and it’ll be better than last year too (hopefully it’s better than that though). Start plugging in Thybulle and a better starting C (Zubac? Gafford? Reed?) and the improvement starts getting steeper. Just adding Thybulle I think our floor is a 6 seed with a high chemistry ceiling as a 1-2 seed. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - Branduil - 07-06-2023 I am just glad we got Williams at a very reasonable price instead of doing something idiotic like giving $20 million a year to Dillon Brooks RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - KillerLeft - 07-06-2023 (07-06-2023, 03:15 AM)omahen Wrote: I very much doubt GW signed that deal without a promise he will be a starter I tend to agree, which is one of the reasons I think Washington is less of a target now. Still, even off the bench, Williams would play waaaaay more here than he was ever going to behind Tatum/Brown. I’d bet that common sense is part of the allure, too. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - Winter - 07-06-2023 Ideally, the Mavs have a singular priority: Get rid of McGee's contract and get a proper C who is compatible to our needs. Getting the appropriate center looks like it might be difficult. Someone is going to need to dance with us. There are no rumors in print. Yeah, if they don't think Holmes can be a solid stop gap, this is next shoe to drop with or without Thybulle. Options: Allen- We don't have the assets Ayton- That ship has sailed for now imo Capella- Really the perfect fit. I was against the move back in the draft but would you offer a future first? Probably not a fit now and Mavs lack the shorter contracts. Gafford- Would need to be a third team. Not good enough to use a future first on. Stewart- Not good enough to use a future first on. Does he provide the rim protection/defense this team is looking for? Zubac- I don't see it. Good contract and Clippers need his role. Gobert- I think Minnesota holds on to him for now. Could be risky if he has another downish season. Huge money that would probably scare dallas away Nurkic- Bad contract and his weakness is our weakness Jonas- Not worth a future first. Not sure how we get there. Also not a rim protector Precious- Worth a future first? Is he ready to play 25 minutes a night? Probably not worth the first. Looking for his next contract. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Thybulle to sign ~3/33 deal w/Mavs| Grant Williams is a Mav - Winter - 07-06-2023 How about Reed? Not perfect but he can protect the rim some. My guess is Philly wants to keep him. I'd rather have Capella or Gafford for the fit.
