He cannot move his feet on the other end. He's a great catch and shoot guy but who's setting him up? Brad Beal? Still think the Suns roster is a bit awkward, but in terms of talent sure Gordon was a good signing. That means a HIGH VALUE contract. And that is why I think he should have played it nice and accepted to be low balled now tbh. Now he is in a team that has no interest in rebuilding his value to prove he is worth the trouble next season. I just have trouble seeing Boston not match. That is under his value imo. Not sure if Thubulle is worth the full MLE. Would take both though for this team. https://twitter.com/mavsfilmroom/status/1675604389069828097?s=46&t=iwQP5yZoJF3Ulzfb9MH7Cg RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Dame Requests Trade, Wants MIA only. - Okstate819 - 07-02-2023 Per Stein we’re interested in Grant Williams or Thybulle for RFA offer. Phi and Port have said up to this point they’ll match anything. Who knows if that’s posturing. Bos would be way into the tax if they matched. Other interesting note, Jarrett Allen may be more available than previously believed from Cleveland. I don't understand how this makes their roster-building options easier, nor why they would be chasing a salary dump later on after free agency has long ended. What are you envisioning being made possible without having the big MLE and positioning to go over the first apron? It seems to me that you are opening a door that you have virtually no way to use, if you do that. That SNT was already done. Houston sent Josh Christopher to Memphis to complete it. I don't know what they're doing with Mills. Houston sent Josh Christopher to Memphis to complete it. That is not true at all. No trade can be done until July 6, so nothing is actually done yet according to the NBA. There are multiple days to modify things before it happens. As far as MEM is concerned, as long as they get the same and give the same, it shouldn't matter to them. And in general, it probably won't be the last trade this week to initially be agreed with 2 teams, then end up with more. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Dame Requests Trade, Wants MIA only. - Okstate819 - 07-02-2023 (07-02-2023, 03:49 PM)RoyTarpleysGhost Wrote: Is this in print or audio ? Stein’s substack. The Mavericks, league sources, have interest in two restricted free agents as they seek to address their significant need for a good defender on the wing: Portland's Matisse Thybulle and Boston's Grant Williams. Neither can be formally signed to an offer sheet before July 6 (Thursday), so the Mavericks have been limited to smaller free agent expenditures in the interim, agreeing to terms with guards Seth Curry and Dante Exum and re-upping Dallas frontcourt fixture Dwight Powell. Word is Powell fielded serious interest from Houston on Saturday before committing to a three-year, $12 million deal with the Mavericks. The Rockets, I’m told, had interest in signing Powell before pivoting to the former Suns center Jock Landale. Of course, even if the Mavericks ultimately manage to acquire Thybulle or Williams, that will realize only one of their two remaining primary offseason objectives after coming to terms with Kyrie Irving on a three-year, $126 million deal … which includes a player option rather than team option in Year 3 that certainly came as a surprise to many leaguewide. As much as it needs a wing defender, Dallas wants to acquire a clear-cut new starting center this summer. Recent trade bids for top choices Clint Capela (Atlanta) and Deandre Ayton (Phoenix) have fallen short and a third potential target — Minnesota's Naz Reid — signed a contract extension at the start of the week without even testing free agency. As the roster currently stands, Powell and Richaun Holmes would likely be competing for the starting center spot so Dallas can bring prized rookie Dereck Lively II along slowly. ? Reminder: The waiting period for teams to match offers on restricted free agents has been reduced to 24 hours in the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement after offer sheets can signed July 6. The Blazers and Celtics have been sending behind-the-scenes signals to interested teams that they intend to match any offer sheet for Thybulle or Williams, respectively. How binding, however, are such whispered claims? The wait to find out how prepared Portland and Boston are to stick to those stances is ticking down. In Boston's case, matching a theoretical offer from the Mavericks or any other team constructed with their $12.4 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception would push the Celtics more than $20 million beyond the tax line for the upcoming season. ? Why were the Cavaliers willing to pay an annual salary of nearly $16 million to acquire Max Strus in a sign-and-trade with Miami? Cleveland believes that Strus' sturdy play during the first three rounds of the playoffs — before he shot 6-for-32 on 3-pointers during the NBA Finals — is evidence that he can bring a level of postseason toughness and readiness to the Cavaliers that was clearly lacking in their first-round exit to lower-seeded New York in the first round. On the same subject, there have been some whispers this week that the Cavaliers are more open to trading Jarrett Allen than advertised for the opposite reason: He appeared to struggle with the moment at various points of the Cavaliers' five-game exit to the Knicks. RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Dame Requests Trade, Wants MIA only. - surfpuckmd - 07-02-2023 The bright side of our free agency experience thus far is we haven't signed anyone to a bad contract. Which contracts do you think have been the worst in the NBA during this free agency season? The ones I believe will be most regrettable: Max Strus- 4 year- $63 million (twice what I would have predicted) Dillon Brooks 4 year- $80 million (decent player but seems mentally ill. I thought he would get the MLE) Dennis Schroeder 2 year- $26 million (Toronto was desperate so overspent for a name. This is what the Mavs usually do) Jeff Green- 1 year- $6 million (anything more than the minimum is charity) Jerami Grant- 5 year- $160 million (solid starter making more than a lot of All-Stars) Which do you think were the worst free agency contracts thus far? RE: Trade & FA 2023-24: Dame Requests Trade, Wants MIA only. - F Gump - 07-02-2023 I think their explanation is a reasonable possibility for the Mills weirdness. It fits NBA practice. The Brooks trade certainly is NOT done yet. And something is afoot. But we can't know for sure until it all plays out. I have been reading this kind of line for several offseasons now In the end, the goal is to actually get the right pieces in your team building approach. There are only so many right pieces out there. So you can go year after year skipping what could be the right pieces because they look too expensive, signing what are not the right pieces at market deals. Or you actually pull the trigger at some point. The question for me is not so much the price/salary, but if a player is the right piece.
