2020-2021 AROUND the NBA: Archived

I know he's not integral to their team, but that freaking sucks for Saric.
14x All-Star, 12x all-NBA, 1x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 1 NBA Championship: Dirk Nowitzki, the man, the myth, the legend.

Agreed, BUT...he DID go to management and get the coach fired. He was the leader of that group who complained hardest. Now, it might have been the right move, but that doesn't sit too well with me, personally.

Was he really the leader? Didn't remember seeing that. Can you remind me with a link of some sort?

IF that was the case, then he should be applauded for saving the season. He did NOT get some bigger role after the coaching change, so it benefited the team and not himself.

So sorry, can't remember where I saw this. But, it was from multiple places associated with the Hawks.

The gist of it (if I remember correctly, and I think I do) was that the whole "Collins vs. Trae" thing we thought we knew about around here was actually Collins vs. the coach and system. Not about Trae, but rather about how he was being used. It was later reported (sorry again, can't remember where I saw this) that Collins was the primary voice who convinced management to move on from Pierce.

It was after reading this that I stopped believing Collins would be available for cheap(ish), because it seemed like a reasonable assumption that at least part of ATL's lukewarm feelings on Collins were about Pierce's opinion of him.

It seems as though the coaching change benefited ATL this year, I can't argue with that. And, I don't think Collins is a bad guy or anything (based on what we know). BUT, I don't see myself ever being the kind of person who applauds someone for going over their boss's head to try to get them fired. I think that move, if true, was at best not a cool thing to do.

Diehard Raptor fans seem pretty upset about this.

Warriors also hiring Atkinson

If Atlanta is smart they start dealing some of these young guys. Huerter has some value and you don't want to pay him a big deal surely. You have a team full of forwards too.

SNT Collins still makes the most sense IMO. Let these other young forwards get some extra time and see who emerges. They are all talented.

Yeah, they have Hunter, Huerter, Reddish and Bogdanovic, and it doesn't seem like they have roles for all of them, if healthy.

At the 4 they only seem to have Collins and Gallo, unless I'm missing someone. The rookie is impressive, but it seemed in the playoffs like he was playing mostly 5.

My guess is that they will move 1-2 of those wings to create room (in their budget, not the cap) to retain Collins.

So you think they want to spend almost $50M on the 4 position alone? Heck you don't even want to spend $40M on ALL bigs, 4s or 5s! Smile

That's a decent point.

Quite concerned about this. Serious teams are adding serious names. I would love to read those kind of Dallas related news. Or is our supporting staff best in the world?

No, especially with Hunter looking for some time at the position.  Unfortunately, I think Vintage Peja may be right about San Antonio being the more logical beneficiary of that.

I really like Collins as a player. But I think Mavs have a bigger need in secondary facilitator role, if anyone wants to come. I am also quite reluctant to pay max money to Collins. He is not a star. Neither is KP, and we would be paying two non stars max money. If Collins would be the final piece of the puzzle I would be all over it. But I don't think he is, so I am mostly out, unless you can pull off Collins and secondary facilitator Conley type. Than I am in.

Partizan spending like crazy. First they signed most successful EU coach, now signing some big player names (from Euroleague perspective).

Last time Mavs were at their best, we had 2 head coach quality guys as assistants.  With everything that's come to light about Carlisle recently, there's probably a parallel there.
