I bet there is a LOT of truth to this, especially the presence of Luka. Luka makes being a "GM" way easier because the most difficult piece is already in place. So many GMs get fired while trying to find a player even 50% of Luka.

I hope Special Advisor means slapping Cuban on the back of his neck when he tries to do something stupid...
Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

Yes, Nico sure points to Forde's Sportsology having done some work.

I hope it means taking Cuban's bagged lunch, wallet and car keys. Dirk has millions of dollars to make up for.

I feely admit to some optimism about this. He's an impressive fellow, based on what we know so far, and this is significantly more drastic of a change than I expected. And, because of that, I'm now retroactively viewing several things more favorably, such as the professional and transparent manner in which Cuban hired and brought in help to conduct this search/hire business. I assumed that was all for PR and was a joke, but they seem to have actually pulled a name out of thin air that has the basketball community paying attention.
Yes. No disrespect to Fin, but I was afraid it was going to be a promotion for Fin only, which would feel like just more of the same and keeping Mark comfortable.

Don’t underestimate Dirk being in the room - a Nike athlete and universally loved. I would have a very difficult time saying no to Dirk, even with Shark Tank Mark also in the room.

Man this is really really good news guys.
The Townsend tweet makes me bummed just because it's probably coming from players that really like Mosley but players seem to like Kidd too (although I'm still very worried about Kidd's HC track record).
But the bigger news is that Cuban seems to be doing what we all were hoping for. If Kidd is Nico's guy then that must have been part of the negotiation, which means Cuban said you can come here and be the GM and choose your coach. He's letting other folks make decisions, it's what we all wanted right?
And Cato's tweet was kind of strange since nothing it finalized and we don't know what the plan is (but i wouldn't be surprised by a giant whole sale of our roster at this point) but everything points to this guy being able to actually capitalize on plan powder, plus players seems to want to play for Kidd.
I'm moving forward with a lot of optimism right now and really hope this doesn't fall through (in classic Mavs fashion).

DeRozan extended his Nike deal ahead of the 2017-18 season, and he was tabbed to lead the relaunch of Kobe Bryant's first signature shoe.

Is that Roddy?
Hey, I know - trade Maxi for a low future first, trade KP and that pick to Presti, and then go out and get *all* the free agents.

I hear we need playmaking guards who can also space the floor and defend the point of attack...

And to think I took crap just the other day for not remembering Dirk's "Utah is a bad city" quote.

And I'll reiterate: you and I seem to agree that based on all the reporting we've seen so far, the only way a guy like Nico takes the Mavs' job is if he knows he's going to have real decision-making power--including, and possibly most importantly, decision-making power about the people reporting directly to him. Given that, making any predictions about whether or not he intends to hire a GM (or a person to fill the GM role regardless of the actual title) when we haven't heard anything actually from him, seems completely premature.
