Mark is the new GM. And he's the old GM.

I would rather just have him appoint himself GM and save us the trouble of blaming the puppet.

Yes, THEY complained, but again, Cuban might have made it very clear that power was being taken away and they refused to cooperate.

I can't imagine how any argument can be made that anyone other than Bob swerved in to other people's lanes. Were Donnie and Rick messing with Bob's spreadsheets?
If Cuban GAVE the power to Bob and TOOK the power away from RC/Donnie, then yes they were not staying in their lane. Cuban hired THEM, he is the boss, if he changes the responsibilities they must comply.

All that’s missing from Cuban is a quote:
“Did you like that championship? I hope you did. I hope you did very much.”

1) I think it is a bummer that Cuban wouldn't consider someone like Ujiri. I think someone like Ujiri would have been great for the organization.
2) I also get why he won't consider giving up his final say on decisions. This is his baby after all and he relishes being involved in the process. I cannot fault him for that.
3) As long as Cuban learns better WHO to listen to, then this news isn't that big a deal IMO. I am 100% convinced that Cuban LISTENS to the people/advisors around him and all the reporting points to that. So the thing moving forward is getting the right kind of people, with the right approaches and wisdom around Cuban and getting the dysfunctional power struggles out. Maybe RC and/or Donnie really were vying for power within the Mavs organization and their removal will clean things up. Hard for us to really know until some time passes and the new blood is in place.
4) As I have said elsewhere, I am still 100% ok with Finley becoming the "face" of the GMing for the Mavs. He would probably do a much better job of staying in his lane than Donnie. I think the key would be assembling a team of analysts and scouts around him that could offer the wisdom needed on personnel decisions. And most importantly a clear and unambiguous decision making tree.
5) Dirk clearly believes in Cuban enough to attach his image and legacy to Cuban. Even if people cannot give Cuban the benefit of the doubt, I think they should give the genuinely good guys like Dirk and Fin the benefit of the doubt. If Cuban was all toxicity and dysfunction I believe that they would have distanced themselves from him.
The one thing I will give Cuban credit for if it is Finley is that he is keeping it within the Mavs family which could go a long way with player trust long term. It would probably weigh heavily on a guy like Luka who sees the loyalty Cuban shows to former players. That could be Cuban's angle here.
I have no issues with Finley as well but we do need to have guys that have agent connections and relationships. I am not sure where Finley sits in that regard but it is a worry.

That’s not to mention those agents and other GMs live off of negotiating, do we know if he’s good at that? Cause there’s no way Cuban takes all the calls and sits down with all the agents. Even if he is armed with set parameters, is he good enough to hold off of going straight to the top offer? How’s his poker face?

So much for the thought that the Cuban/Jones comparisons were unfair. At least Jerry can recruit and make deals with other teams.

Cuban just lets the criminals run the business operations.
I never thought I'd see the day, but Jerry isn't the worst owner in Dallas. Why couldn't I have been born anywhere else?

Just admit it's the same old crap and tell us it is Finley and Mosley so we can ignore the draft and hope for a FA miracle...

If Cuban does hire Fin and Coach Mos, I share none of your optimism. To me it would mean status quo. We have seen this status quo playbook for the past 25+ years by another owner in our town. We know the ending.
This is nothing against Fin or Coach Mos.

I don't see how anyone could be for the Finley/Mosley combo. You promote from within when you run a top notch organization. I would say we are in the bottom half of how well teams are run. You don't encourage that with more of the same.

This is really well put, and I don't think anyone else has made this point so effectively. I agree.
Maybe Cuban smartly knows what he has, and the combo of Voulgaris, Finley, some other outside hire and Mosley is about to set the world on fire (it's possible), but I have no idea how anyone from the fan base could be confident about that today.

Kamm you are fine as far as stating your opinion/reading tea leaves as definitive or fact. Everyone does that.
IMO it's because we are writing to each other and that's the way it's read. You probably don't believe that your opinion is fact. But the way you are supposed to write an argument in a paper is stating it as fact so in this medium it's naturally going to come across that way. Most people here don't specify that's it's just their opinion. And others do. There's nothing wrong with either if we can all realize that I think none of us are arrogant or jerky enough to think everything we say is right.
TLDR: Talking to each other in writing is hard and confusing. We should all be at a bar drinking and talking Mavs instead lol.
