The idea of ZL is just for grins and giggles, but nothing serious. You've done a great job of outlining just a few of the many reasons the Mavs would look elsewhere.

Shame the Mavs weren´t more strategic.
Doncic, Dinwiddie, Bullock, Brunson + DFS (low capholds), Kleber (non-guaranteed), Bertans (stretch-waive) and you´d have an outright signing threat that would probably have the Bulls agree to a trade.
They'd laugh at that offer. LaVine is up for a new contract. Why would they eat two years of Dinwiddie's deal and take a 30 something center who just got punked by Kevon Looney in the playoffs even if we added a pick that figures to be a low pick?
I'd assume any LaVine talks would start with discussing some form of a Brunson S & T

If the Mavs had the legit threat to sign Lavine outright? Kleber is an expiring and would immediately become their 2nd best forward/center. Dinwiddie is a decent play-maker/heat check 6th man with a year + buyout left + a future 1st round pick. It´s either that or lose Lavine for nothing and have around 18M in capspace.

Why are we talking about this? In what universe are we capable of making a max offer to Lavine? We would have to let Brunson walk and shed how much salary? And then send more assets out? Your infatuation with that guy is weird.

To be more precise, Happy Walters was Noel's agent when Dallas traded for him and offered him $70mm. Nerlens promptly fired him, declined the offer, and signed with Rich Paul. So Paul was Noel's agent throughout the following "hot dog year" in Dallas and his rapid career decline.

Man, I don’t know. I realize you have considerable expertise on this. But who woulda ever thought Miami could land Jimmy when they did? Or Philly Harden?
If the players and agents say Zach wants to be a Mav and Luka is advocating for it, do you really think it can’t happen? (I’m not challenging you, amigo. I’m asking, really? No way?)

It depends on where you want to draw the line. But I'm assuming the Mavs want to get better, rather than simply sacrifice everything they've built so far, to simply add Lavine.
The silliest is certainly the idea the Mavs are just a smidge away from cap room, to force CHI to the SNT table by the threat of signing him. Assuming they keep Brunson, they would have to find a way to jettison about $90M in contracts, with $0 coming back, to have cap room. Crazy talk.
I also tend to think all these rumors are agent driven in the first place, an ongoing campaign by Rich Paul to keep Lavine in the news and ensure CHI is motivated to offer Lavine the full max salary that he feels he has been deprived of, and badly wants. Only they can guarantee him $212M (others can only offer 157M). Assuming Lavine wants CHI, and they are willing to give him a max, then the rest is just noise getting from here to there.

I didn't realize LaVine was represented by Klutch. You can pretty much turn the page just based on that information, as far as I'm concerned. Not doing business with them is one of the few things Cuban has done right to this point, imho, so I sincerely hope that doesn't change.

Agree with this. I thought he was a Duffy guy.

Robert Williams is becoming a paint beast. He's a big part of their defense. Think if he was on the Mavs?

Yeah he'd cover a ton of mistakes Powell/Maxi couldn't. Defensively he's pretty close to the perfect 5. If Mavs do draft a guy I'd say they really should try to find someone that can be like Robert Williams. Elite rim protector while still great on the perimeter, great rebounder, and a great lob threat. I'd say being a 2 way defender (rim protection and perimeter) is probably more important than being 2 way offense/defense for a center as long as they can just catch lobs and score inside when they get the ball point blank off of penetration.

Celtics can run lineups where they are good defensively from 1-5 with Smart, White, Brown, Tatum, Horford, and both Williamses. No weak link on defense to hide

Boston is just too big and athletic for GS. Klay, Steph, and Wiggs had decent games and they still lost. GS has to get game 4 now.
