That's about how I see it, but imo the details a bit different. You can't play Gobert and Powell at the same time. And Powell will still be getting about $11M for a year (so you won't just mothball him) and also will have an expiring contract (which adds value to Utah to include him within the match). And if Gobert is being moved, Utah will have an opening for a playable C. In light of all that, Powell would undoubtedly end up in any Gobert-to-Dallas deal. What the other matching salary might look like (perhaps THJ, or Bertans-Brown, or something else that's likely to be about 18-22M total) would remain to be seen. I think THJ has the most value to Utah of the possibilities I would consider, but who knows. And not that I love Powell, but the problem with including him is that you are still incredibly thin at the position and you've just eliminated one avenue ('22) to help with addressing that. That leaves you with $6m to find someone (McGee?). I still think Utah will get more attractive offers. Just for fun, as it doesn't address my concern, but maybe expand your idea of Powell + THJ and expand it to include Bertans but we take Conley back. We would be unstoppable Mavs: Gobert and Hernangomez Jazz: THJ, Bertans, Powell and pick 26 This is close to even money. I don’t think either team wants to add to their current payroll. Also, Hernangomez would fit into the TPE giving Utah another asset If I’m Utah i would demand Green be included. Not sure i would do it then RE: AROUND the NBA: Jokic+Den extension| Gobert saying "him or me" with Donovan - F Gump - 05-02-2022 (05-02-2022, 07:10 PM)cow Wrote: And not that I love Powell, but the problem with including him is that you are still incredibly thin at the position and you've just eliminated one avenue ('22) to help with addressing that. That leaves you with $6m to find someone (McGee?). I mostly concur with your thoughts, but Powell is such a bad fit with Gobert - and from about every angle, he is a mandatory to be outbound in such a deal. After a Gobert deal to Dallas, if you need a backup lane-clogger, you still have lots of choices without Powell - there would still be 4 guys on the roster to be your backup, of varying sizes and skill sets (Kleber, Bobi, Bertans, Chriss). That's 1/3 of the roster, and I think that's plenty. About the 2022 pick being included, I'd rather offer something different of value (it's 26, which might not even move the needle), but my primary interest in keeping it is to have a shot (without a close 2nd) at Mark Williams. If they can get him somehow, to me that's the guy. It would take a trade up, but if he's still on the board in the late teens (which is possible, opinions vary widely) then I think he's worth an investment. About a bigger deal including Conley, how about this one in which Cuban pays through the nose in salary and tax -- but he wipes clean a lot of Utah issues which facilitates a reset around Mitchell - andi I do NOT include a pick in light of all that salary the Mavs have to eat with not only Gobert but also an aging Conley ... Gobert-Conley-ONeale FOR THJ-Bertans-Powell-Brown-Burke RE: AROUND the NBA: Jokic+Den extension| Gobert saying "him or me" with Donovan - SleepingHero - 05-02-2022 (05-02-2022, 12:28 PM)F Gump Wrote: Even "Warriors might have interest?" is not correctly relating the "info" offered in the podcast, in which the participants speculated on who they think might have a use for Gobert, if he's made available. Pure speculation, by media. They talked about what offers or interest might look like if made by Dallas, Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte, Golden State, etc and they speculate and question what sort of trade match, the fit, the interest etc. Fair point. Didn't read the article before posting and took the tweet at face value. Happens to us all at some point! In any case, it furthers backs up the Gobert rumors. That's 1/3 of the roster, and I think that's plenty. Plenty of what? You need more than a two man rotation of big men. Maxi is one part for sure. Bertans can't play defense or rebound. Bobi can't play and Chriss is on the razors edge of being in the league. We need more production out of that spot and need to stop with the idiotic smaller contracts for guys like Bobi and WCS. It's infuriating. RE: AROUND the NBA: Jokic+Den extension| Gobert saying "him or me" with Donovan - Chicagojk - 05-03-2022 I just don't see Mavs having the assets for Gobert. Some of the deals being offered here are way to low imo. He has a huge contract and that will impact things, but I don't think Utah is going to be interested in our bad contracts. Maybe I am wrong though. The only reason Gobert may be moved is him and his team have come up short in the playoffs for several years. If they hadn't, Gobert isn't being moved. That is the case with a lot of these type of guys who are moved. Utah is going to have a real interesting off-season. What is the value of Mitchell? It appears he will not be with the Jazz for his full career. Maybe they move Mitchell and keep Gobert??? Could they get RJ Barrett and Toppin for Mitchell or is that too much? If the Knicks don't bite, how many offers are out there with top tier young talent is there? How would a Barrett, Toppin, Bogdan and Gobert pairing work? Could they find another younger, cheaper, bigger point guard somewhere? Or do they just decide to blow things up and look way down into the future and move Gobert too? That is really tough for a city like Utah. I think Turner is more likely if the Mavs go after a big. He has injury concerns and less years on his contract. In theory, he could tell teams he is not interested in extending and only wants to sign an extension with the Mavs if he wants to be here. I think Charlotte and maybe Toronto could be wildcards though. They could call Turner on his bluff and still trade for him. That seems like a Masai move. Gobert plays 10 minutes more a game than Powell and makes it easy to play DFS or Luka at the 4 so the big rotation would be a lot deeper than it is today. At that point you just need a 3rd center that we can actually play 10 minutes a game (not Bobi or Chriss) and that should be fairly easy to scrape up. "Fairly easy" is a pretty high bar to clear for this organization. Look no further than WCS and giving him multiple contracts. RE: AROUND the NBA: Jokic+Den extension| Gobert saying "him or me" with Donovan - dirkfansince1998 - 05-03-2022 Obviously wouldn´t be the case without injuries but Wes Matthews is a starter in the 2nd round of the playoffs...
