Hard to tell what exactly went wrong the 2nd time. First of all. Pistons defense probably knew what was happening and played the passing lane. Also think that timing/communication was off. Looks like Kleber expected THJ to be in the corner.
Yeah, I actually think BOTH Kleber AND Powell have shown pretty significant progress over past seasons when put in that "outlet" position in the center of the floor. Like, a lot of progress. They're making more good decisions than bad, imo.
But, I also think Wood's ability to be a threat to shoot, drive or find an in-between solution means that in the long run they'd probably be better off getting him acclimated to that role.
The thing is, I'm not sure you can put that (completely) on Kidd. I'd be shocked if Luka didn't have a lot of real-time agency in those decisions. They ran it like that because Luka decided to run it like that, imo.
