One tangible thing I've noticed a lot this year (haven't tracked it, but I feel like I've seen it a lot) is the chain of events that follows:
1) Luka gets the big switched onto him.
2) Luka takes a "meh" shot from midrange or from 3. The kind we know he can make, but sometimes doesn't.
3) The shot is missed, and because Luka was guarded by the opposing big, and because all of Luka's teammates are crashing the paint (offensive glass), rather than focusing on transition defense (might be the biggest philosophy change from last regime to this one, so far), Luka (not exactly the team's most aware early-possession defender, especially after HE misses a shot) is left in a 1-on-1 transition D situation with the opposing big.
4) Luka either doesn't bother to try to get back to prevent the long outlet, tries but doesn't have the experience to take the long outlet angle away or tries but cannot guard properly in that situation because he's not the guy you want committing fouls in that situation (obviously).
This, to me, is a coaching concern. Carlisle used to routinely outdo opponents when it came to little details like this. So far, Kidd has seemed like the lesser-experienced coach in most of these games (because he is, of course).
