You can compare a missed shot to a turnover, but they're not exactly the same. A turnover has a 0% chance of going in the basket. A shot has a much higher than 0% chance of going in. But it's certainly true that poor shooting lowers your conversion per possession rate, just not nearly as much as a turnover.
