All I'm trying to avoid is a situation that I see creeping up on the horizon where the Mavs decide to not throw all their eggs into the JC sweepstakes, he gets traded elsewhere, and you crucify the Mavs for not going all out.
Collins is probably the most riskiest free agent out there in terms of actually being able to sign the dude. He's at Kawhi status imo. Except the Hawks are his Uncle Dennis.
Put it this way, I'd rather the Mavs go for more sure things this offseason than to sit and wait 3 days in the hope that ATL doesn't match a max contract where the Mavs have to further bribe them with solid assets like Maxi and DFS to sweeten the pot.
Collins is a GOOD player. He's not worth all that. He's not even close to top 5 in his position. Mavs breaking their backs for a guy like that, no matter how good the fit is, is a shortsighted move.
