Quote:His signing could indicate that incumbent forward, Dario Saric, will not be re-signed.

Would love Saric in DAL on the cheap.

Yeah me too, but he is a RFA, so it is not going to happen Sad

Good for Jae. Don't want him on that contract. He'll be a good fit in Phoenix.

He is intent on playing for every team in the league. I bet he will be traded again within the next 2 years  Big Grin

And he thinks he'll be in PHX long term?

At the very least, they use the 3rd year to shop him as an expiring deal.

That said, I'm not crying he took less money elsewhere.

How could we offer him "more money?"

sign and trade with Miami?

Dude is a 4. A really, really small 4. If he signs here, maybe they do just move Wright for Ariza and call it a day (no Johnson).

Then, we would've had a whole season of "why is Carlisle playing Crowder at the 4 instead of the 2??" Because that's his position, and that's the position they signed him to play, that's why.

I'm totally ok with this. Nice player, but he can go play in Phoenix. Not the end of the world.

I'm a little puzzled from what Jae is saying. He would've absolutely been a great fit on the Mavs long term. Perhaps he didn't want to be trade bait? I don't think him being in PHX makes it any less likely he'd be traded.

Especially if the Mavs offered more money (which I don't even know how they could unless it was a 4 year 8 mil deal and we didn't sign WCS or Burke).

That's even more confusing. I know Miami offered him a 1+1 year deal worth nearly 15 mil each year with the 2nd year being a team option. So maybe that's where that is coming from?

Don't know how the Mavs could compete with that without sending out a lot of money.

Seems if the report was more money for Crowder that the Wright deal could have been expanded.  Maybe Miami takes Johnson and Crowder comes here for something more than the MLE.  If true, I'm actually more interested in knowing the years in the offer than the money.  Is Crowder the level of talent to use up cap room for?  Clearly RoCo and Gallinari were at that level.  Was Crowder?

The point is having room for Giannis may have been more by accident than design.  Maybe Dallas feels it is close with what it has and one more guy (a four that pushes DFS/Powell to the bench) and we are good.

I have never thought it was "Giannis or bust" so I agree with the spirit of what you're suggesting.

I DON'T think Gallo, RoCo or Crowder are guys who would make them think "we are good" but I can see them all in the similar light of "we think these guys are worth a certain amount of money and the trouble of working around that amount."

But call me crazy...I like the way it turned out better.

Disappointing we can't even attract 2nd, 3rd and 4th tier FA's these days. Kind of a head scratcher. I like the guys we got though. I could see at least one of Johnson, Green, even Bey or Hinton being a big defensive contributor on the Mavs. Watching film on Hinton got me excited the other day. I don't know anything ab NBA prospecting but I am like this guy is seriously undrafted? Amazing.

If Crowder doesn't want to be here, I could care less.  JAG.
