They had to start Allen to spread the floor and I guess THJ is a much better player. They have roughly 12 mil of cap space that could increase to 25 mil if they renounce TO on Winslow, which wouldn't really be a huge loss for them.
If NO loses Ball they could certainly use a shooter of THJ caliber and could have cap space.
As last - if I am a losing team with endless cap space I would gladly sign THJ for 12 mil just to flip him at TDL. It shouldn't be difficult to do it.
Now we suddenly talking about $12M p.a.? Well the Mavs would gladly pay THJ that, too. You guys always talked about 17-20M p.a. Obviously there is a huge difference between a lottery team paying THJ $12M or $20M?
The market for THJ is a lot more limited than people want to admit. You also have to factor in whether THJ wants to play for a likely loser, too.
GoTime said it perfectly. Let the market set his value and if it goes well above MLE money, you can always negotiate an asset S&T with a contender.
Philly and Lakers would be a the most interesting teams Korkmaz/Hill for THJ or Kuzma for THJ.
