As painful (and unjust) as it was, Game 1 was part of this teams growth curve. The Clips...

  • did not appear to have an answer for Luka. 11 TOs is not memorable, but every thing else was. The question is what are they going to do about it. Either he still keeps killing them (and getting key defenders in foul trouble) or they change their defensive scheme while creates weaknesses elsewhere.
  • still almost lost even without KP in the mix. If they focus on Luka, does let KP go off?
  • are beatable. Familiarity through a series will distill out the better team and that may help DAL.
  • are a tough opponent. And as such are going to help the Mavs become a better team, win or lose.
This was not supposed to be Dallas' year, and it probably isn't, but it is about building the team's culture towards future success.

If the Mavs can withstand the mugging fouls, then this might be a great series. Interesting to see how the refs call it tonight.

This is the playoffs. He plays! As for how the refs will call the game....against the Clippers, probably badly and in their favor. However, KP may get some latitude tonight. The refs are human too.
This Reunion Rowdie says the AAC needs "Luka's Lunatics" for the Luka/KP and gang era.

I don't like hearing anything with knee and Porzingis in the same sentence. Going to need to a better showing from the non Luka guys here tonight. Paul George said the strategy is to wear Luka out as the series goes along and I believe it

Sit him out. We can get another star player with Luka doing 40/10/10 in a sweep. Things are different, if Porzingis tears another ACl. Then other stars will look at him (and Powell) is nearly 50% of dead Mavs cap.

I would be fine with KP sitting if it's serious. This year is not a hill to die on with his knee. If it's sore maybe it's not a problem (these guys are probably sore all the time).

Is there any doubt The Clippers and likely Marcus Morris are going to beat the hell out of Luka this game? I want to see these so-called "by the book" refs protect a star player from getting the shit kicked out of him on Doc's orders. They know what we know which is the way to keep the Mavs from scoring 130 points is to knock Luka around and maybe even get him injured. I anticipate a booth review of a "hard foul" that just so happened to be on Luka, knocking him on his ass. The refs will conclude, you know what it's just a good hard foul, no harm done, no tech needed for flagrant.

PatBev out good, one less agitator. Altho the way he has been shooting maybe we want him in there taking bad shots.

Bev being out is pretty big. 1 less elite defender the Mavs have to worry about.

Chris Webber is calling the game. Dude made me nearly mute the TV last night with the Blazers/Lakers game. Called Stotts the former Mavs elite defensive coach. Said Carmelo was the no.2 pick in the 03 draft (Darko who?), and just droned on about nonsense.

LUKA TO KLEBER TO KICK THINGS OFF!

Luuuuuuka with a 3!

KP with the great boxout and then nails the long 3!

KRISTAPS WITH THE STUFF!

AND THEN LUKA WITH THE DRIVE!

LUKA WITH THE 3!

Thats as good of a start as there can be.

Sweet start

Mavs are very focused.  Runs come and go but that LA defense is not so great right now.

Great start. Love the intensity under the rim. KP with some great box outs vs Zubac. George and Leonard will start to make some shots but as long as the Mavs can protect the rim I like their chances.

Nice change from Luka's turnover problems in game 1.

I look for the clippers to try to ramp up their defense at this point, Mavs need to be ready
