Sign DeMarcus Cousins thread

This would be the perfect time to do some Cousins tire kicking. Granted if he plays well he will just go to a other team who isn't the Mavs next year. I would love to see what he can do. Rick is good at maximizing the effectiveness of his players.

I hope we don't sign anyone, we are not in an all in stage yet. Just go with the 15 + 2 guys we had in February and determine what we have. I certainly don't see anyone jumping into 8-9 man regular playoff rotation: Luka, KP, THJ, Curry, DFS, Maxi, Wright and WCS+Bobi with Lee, Barea and perhaps MKG as "per need" specialists. I doubt anyone else will see serious playoff minutes.

I think there is a voodoo curse on Cousins and any team he is a part of.

I'll keep pointing this out until proven wrong, but I suspect Lee is going to play a much bigger role than people expect...possibly even start.  I think Curry will be the first man off the bench.  Given our thinness at Big, I don't think Maxi starts.  That brings it down to Lee or Wright.  I suspect Wright is the bench wing and Lee starts (but doesn't get starter minutes).  Curry or Maxi probably close depending on the match-up and whether we are leading or trailing.

I agree with you Dan. Lee in short minutes does have a late season/playoff role on this team. However, if Rick thinks he can use Boogie against Herrell as a defender, rebounder 3rd option off the bench, then I would be for it especially if we face the Clippers. The odds are we will face them. Of course, we would do due diligence. Boogie may not really even be available.
This Reunion Rowdie says the AAC needs "Luka's Lunatics" for the Luka/KP and gang era.

It's sort of a bizarro world we live in where ppl would rather have Lee than Boogie Cousins for a vet-min no risk contract a month before the playoffs begin. I do like that Lee can play some defense but then I have also seen the Mavs completely run out of bigs in some games which causes Rick to play Justin Jackson at the 4. It makes me crazy. Even slow Cousins eats up space. Boban has the same lateral quickness issues and offers less offensive upside. I think the Clips are out of spots to get Cousins. Boston could definitely be in the mix. LAL could definitely bring back Cousins considering Howard is not going to play in the playoffs.

I think this re-start situation is messy enough to not add another disruptive on court and potentially off court element to the process.

I´d be more interested to sign him after the season. Offer him a minimum contract and then challenge him. Is he ready to follow the Mavs fitness/rehab program? Is he willing to change his diet? Is he willing to sacrifice off the bench as 6th man? Is he willing to play smarter? If he is putting in the effort for two months in the summer/autumn, I wouldn´t even mind to upgrade his contract to something like 5+5 (team option) before the season, but it´s his responsibility to deliver and have a chance at a Zach Randolph redemption.

So Lee is out for Orlando anyway. I would assume Mavs can release him to sign Boogie?

Well, that “until proven wrong” thing didn’t take very long.

I actually don’t mind the team retaining him.  I expect him to either be back next season or be used for salary matching in a deal.  Of course, he could be both...back and then used in a deal at the TDL.  His salary situation is very flexible with Bird rights that allow him to be paid a wide range of numbers.

Since we're on the topic of signing nutcases,

Why not try and sign JR Smith?

Meaning he doesn’t want to show teams how truly useless he is in a playoff situation?

Where did anyone get the idea that Cousins was healthy enough to play?

Nah. Had to look it up. 10 months since he tore his ACL. Given his injury history, this is his last chance to get his body right.

It´s the smart thing to do. Rehab individually until October. Then latch onto a team with a capable medical staff and use the two months to get ready for the regular season in December.

Then you´ll at least know you did everything correct in your rehab and if another major injury occurs you just know your body is done with basketball. Much better for him. He´s set for life financially and he still has those Olympic and World Championships gold medals to be proud of.

So much overrating of Lee in this thread who is the definition of JAG. He is like a Devin Harris or any one of many other JAGs who are borderline NBA players.

Man...time is not moving for me.

I saw this thread and thought "didnt they say Lee is out for the year a week ago?"

That was just yesterday?

Courtney Lee is so indispensable that we need him in the locker room even if he's injured. If that's the case let's bring Dirk back?!??
