He is being encouraged to maximize his impact on the game, rather than his individual stats. I think this is a pretty common thing with multi-star teams, as opposed to teams where one guy is "the man." Learning to step back is a process for an ex-franchise player.
Having said that, I think when KP's shot starts falling, we are going to see some truly breathtaking team performances.
