I would also love Crowder, Iguodala. I think Jackson would definitely get it done. It depends on how much the Mavs value Jackson as an asset, especially in this scenario where they are getting 2 rentals for 1 pretty good, cheap 24 yr old piece. As much as I like Jackson I also wouldn't overstate his value. If you had to replace him for example in the summer for half of MLE (around his current salary) would it be that hard to find someone of similar production, upside? I don't think so. So in light of that if I can improve now without giving up anything in the future I am for it.
Jae Crowder and Brandan Wright were on the other side of this when the Mavs made the Rondo trade. Both players were good pieces but their contracts were expiring and Mavs probably weren't intent on resigning them so they proved useful in a swing-for-the-fences Rondo trade. I don't think this was a bad idea, it failed bc Rondo was the wrong player. But remember they were trying to figure out a way to build a contender before Dirk got too old.
I also think Brunson has more upside than Jackson. He is cheaper and I think has potential to be a major rotation piece for years to come. I would still trade him for the right deal but I would be more hesitant to give him away knowing that other teams likely value him less than Mavs do.
