Mavs could certainly lose home-court, there are a lot of variables in play here most importantly how long Luka remains sidelined. I think this injury will not affect Mavs ability to make the playoffs. To me more important that getting home-court advantage is avoiding the LA teams in the first round. It certainly lowers our chances should the Mavs get a 7th or 8th seed because of a skid that sets them back. It's really hard to say. This season feels like house money especially with this Luka injury. I still think if he is back in 2-3 weeks that the team will not be completely out of the mix. I also think Mavs will make 1-2 impact moves. I hope that this injury wouldn't scare them off of Iguodala, it's possible it might. They don't have to decide though until the trade deadline which isn't until Feb 6th. If Mavs are still in pretty good shape, health-wise and record-wise I still expect Mavs to "go for it" in terms of adding impact guys, even if they do end up being rental players.
I think @"Scott41theMavs" where you and I differ is that I think the Mavs are one defensive stud or two away from legit contention at least this season bc there isn't a GSW super-team to battle against. LAC is really tough but the Lakers are not perfect. I look at Houston's roster which was primarily Harden, aging but effective CP3, Eric Gordon, Clint Capela and Tucker the last few years. Harden and Luka are very similar and I think Luka is a more well-rounded player. The rest of that roster fit Harden well but it wasn't an all-star roster. By the time CP3 showed up to Houston he was a very solid player but no longer a star. KP is a clear upgrade of Capela. THJ is not that far off from Gordon who himself was not highly thought of when Houston signed him. Tucker was an undervalued defensive specialist. The closest thing we have to that is DFS. The big difference is in Houston you had another guard in CP3 vs here in Dallas you a bigger lineup. Luka by himself is taller than 4 of Houston's starting lineup over the last few years. This year they have Danuel House is adds more size over 6'4 Gordon. I think Powell is the guy that probably needs to get upgraded defensively. If you get a big wing or a big/wing hybrid that gives you much better defense in that starting unit I think you have a contending roster.
