Dude has ALL the tools we're looking for. He's a gigantic wing that can also play center. He's of the mold of Jarred Vanderbilt/Jonathan Isaac/Jaden McDaniels. His athleticism is off the charts.
Why the Hornets waived him just 2 years in probably scared every team in the league away because the last time a team cut loose on a relatively high 1st was Josh Primo. So the reasons must've been pretty good.
But he still has less than 3 years in the NBA and is eligible for a 2-way contract. I think this dude would be perfect amount of risk for 2-way. Bring him in for a month, see how crazy he actually is and if he works then the Mavs just solved their Maxi replacement big time. If he's still crazy? Cut him loose with no risk.
It seems a good idea. Low risk, potential high reward. Kai has exactly the kind of physical length, athleticism and mobility that you would want in the Power Forward who is next to Luka. The goal should be to get Kai to buy into becoming a 3&D forward, similar to Jaden McDaniels or Herbert Jones. If Kai can do this, it would be his pathway to getting paid, which I hope he realizes too. Defense will be his ticket.
I could also be talked into kicking the tires on the other guy you mentioned, Josh Primo. He could be developed into a good shooting guard option.
