The time to negotiate with the Mavs on Capela was draft night. The Mavs didn’t give in then (thank goodness).
I think the holdup here is probably related to masai trying to get as much value as possible out of Siakim. I’m sure the Mavs were pretty upfront about their interest in this small part in the deal. Siakim and Hunter are the principals.
Maybe the Mavs are throwing in a first, maybe they’re not. But whatever the case, my guess is that their part is done and dusted. The negotiation is taking place between ATL and TOR.
