Very astute bbiq observation here. Particularly it explains why Luka was so angry and frustrated after the play and game.  
I would think that Luka might have some ability to alter the play call in that situation?    
The team is sitting on top of your play, an alteration could easily result in a wide open look for someone. 

This is not to ignore that Coach Kidd and staff have done some good things but here the resulting shot was a direct result of being outcoached in that particular set and down the stretch, demonstrating the game within the game that coaches and play callers have. 
Two very talented teams playing hard and close so the coaching moves really can be the difference in an 'L' or a 'W'.
