Cato’s podcast today had “Mavs Draft” (Richard) on to talk draft. Lot’s of talk of the value of moving back.
1. Move back to move bad salary for a more useful veteran
2. Move back for picks
3. Move back to combine the #10 with assets for someone good
Most of the talk was about #1. Richard likes the value in this area better than the guys at #10. When Tim asked for his favorite scenario, it was moving down to #16 to move Bertans (no player specified, but a June deal with Utah matches Olynyk) and drafting from among Bufkin, JHS from Indiana, Coulibaly and Jordan Hawkins. When pinned down to his favorite, he sees Noah Clowney as a riser and likes him better than Lively.
Olynyk makes about $5mm less than Bertans and would be more useful. He plays both C and PF and spreads the floor similar to Maxi. In fact, I could see him and Maxi sharing the PF position or I could see him making Maxi expendible in a deal for a center. Don’t know if that is Allen or Ayton or what.
