Dereck Lively is quickly becoming one of my favorite Mavs of all time.

small sample size alert, but, luka doncic's usage rate through four games is 33.7 percent. it would be the second-lowest mark of his career.

Those sets where Lively is a hub at the break looking for handoffs and trying to rub defenders are $$$. I imagine that's a trend that will increase.

Lively's message just boils down to "Just Win, Baby!".

I just can’t envision Anthony Edwards EVER saying something like this.

I may have a few tears tricking down my face.  I thought it was like this because it shows on the court.  This is about the best quote we could get from the players.

Dereck is the real deal!! ...with both ears intact and not on steroids.

Such a grounded dude who has a handle on what's important, doesn't display any of those toxic qualities that come from insecurity and selfishness, has an amazing bball IQ for his age, and versatility and skill that no one saw coming. So cool that he's a Mav. My last Mavs jersey was DFS. I may have to get a DLive.

Would he go number 1 in a redraft?

I didn't bother looking up or trying to remember who he was drafted with. Where would he go in a re-draft, do you think? I guess I gotta go look up his draft. BRB

You could make a strong case for #2.   Brandon Miller looks like he will develop into that wing that everyone wants, so he may have a case.    These guys are so young though.    I would be fine saying #2 at this stage but also aware there are a few other good candidates for #2 as well.

Oh, right. I forgot that Lively was in the overrated bean pole's draft class. So, #1 is out of the question.

I don't pay attention to the whole league as much as I used to, so I asked AI how the redraft would go.

Here's what it said...

1. Bean Pole ................ 12. Dereck Lively II

You're comparing apples to oranges. Lively is not in the same league, so you can't expect them to say similar things. Can you envision Dirk or Kobe or MJ or Luka ever saying something similar? No, right?

Anyway, Antman has a good mentality too, for his role or position in the hierarchy of things. He's serious about winning and improving, without bowing down to anyone else who is not on his team. Can't fault him for that.

The Mavs are listening to worship/gospel music during practice today.

PJ out for the CHI-game. Right knee sprain. Lively questionable. Kleber still out.

Frontcourt already thin.

I guess we’ll see a lot of smallball & high minutes for Marshall the next few games.

They should have kept Sharp on the team. Yeah he is not as much of a threat offensively speaking but they could use him more on defense. That decision could continue to bite us in the ass if these injuries to our bigs pile on because they get overplayed in the absence of their back ups. Unless they see another big target to add they need to look into getting Sharp back on the team or someone else who can man the middle. We desperately need someone that has some size and ability to defend the basket. Depending on a rookie is something we were used to last season and it did not seem to hurt us. Worst thing is we develop a trade asset that could bring back more assets. Using Powell is not that great of an option. So we are down 2 PF's and 1 of our centers. That truly sucks bigtime.

My guess is that if we held onto Sharp he would be in the G league, and if he was on the team Powell would likely (rightfully) play ahead of him.  Lively was a very special rookie and I don't think Sharp is anywhere near as ready to contribute on either end of the floor.  Honestly Powell is really not that bad as 3/4th string center.

Powell is pretty great as 3rd-string Center!
