MAVS NEWS: Luka Wins Community Cares Award! | DLive's Mom Passes Away
https://www.nba.com/news/power-rankings-2023-24-week-18

Three numbers to know

The Mavs have the league’s best clutch record, 17-6 in games that were within five points in the last five minutes. They’ve had the league’s second-best clutch offense (128 points scored per 100 possessions), with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving having combined to shoot 30-for-60 (50%) on clutch field goals, 11-for-23 (48%) on clutch 3-pointers and 29-for-33 (88%) on clutch free throws.

They have the league’s biggest differential between their record when they’ve shot the league average or better from 3-point range (23-5, second best) and their record when they haven’t (9-18, 18th).

They have the best record among the four teams — Charlotte, Memphis and Miami are the others — that don’t have a lineup that’s played at least 100 minutes together. Their three most-used lineups all include Grant Williams, who was traded at the deadline.

Mavs are one of four teams that don't have a set lineup yet.

That's bad and good:
Bad, because most others were already able to and might have had advantages because of that.
Good, because it shows we have quite some room to improve with a set lineup.

You see how Ant Edwards and Jaden McDaniels made Luka and Kyrie look like JV High Schoolers in the last 20 seconds of a game?   Neither one could get a shot off with many seconds on the shot clock.   Neither one...could get a game winning shot off.   Arguably two of the deepest bag offensive players ever...couldnt even get a shot off.   Legit, smothering defense.

Only one game.  But Mavs have competition come playoffs.

They all do. There is really no NBA team of the top contenders that is head and shoulders better than any one else, maybe Boston. Even the champs don't look invincible. The records reflect that.

A bunch of Gafford blocks this year.

Maybe we find out he has trouble guarding in space but these are impressive. Not only will players need to account for a shot blocker at the rim by either Lively or Gafford and that can be impactful. But a lot of these lead to fast break opportunities. So you erase a basket on your end and maybe get an easy basket on the other end. Those can add up. Could be the difference in a one score game.

Tier 2.  On the brink of contention.

#9 overall.

#9 - Tier 2 - Brink of Contention

Takeaway: This is the best clutch team in the NBA, and I think it’s only going to get deadlier for their opponents. I love their additions at the deadline. And Luka Dončić is playing about as well as you can expect a star to play. The Mavericks don’t just have the best clutch-time net rating in the clutch — they also have the best such record. Everything is the right decision, and they turn the ball over an incomprehensibly low seven percent of the time. You have to blow them out or risk being cooked.

Was surprised the Mavs are practicing today when post All-Star play doesn’t begin until Thursday, but 7 of their next 8 games are against teams at least 5 games over .500.

The first 3 are against 33-22 Phoenix, at 31-25 Indiana and at 36-17 Cleveland.

So, yeah, better practice.

Mavs new ownership making significant increases to season tickets without grandfathering anyone in as their first action is a pretty crappy look. Surprised this board hasn’t mentioned it.
