SUMMER LEAGUE: Gm 5 84-95 loss, JH 15 pts, 3 ast, 3 rbd, 7 TO
I don’t remember Brunson in SL. Does Hardy look better or worse in comparison? Not that it matters. Just trying to get an idea of what SL play is supposed to look like for a 2nd round pick.

Brunson looked lost and tentative from what i remember.

Won the last one. 1-4 record.
Mavs tendency not to play guys like Green certainly shows that they have other priorities when it comes to scouting and development.
Would argue that it goes even further. If they believe that a player has what it takes he won´t be in Frisco. Will be developed on the main roster. There is a lot of room to improve. I think Miami is the gold standard for a well run development program and the one thing that stands out is how closely connected main and g-league rosters are. Coaching, schemes, training. It´s one program. Implementing the same standards on all levels.

I remember Brunson very well.  I was slightly disappointed.  He was indeed hesitant and tentative.  I expected much better.  I do think one factor, at the time, was that Brunson had come from a good system strongly oriented in teamwork.  He was a team member.  The summer league is a freewheeling free for all with many players simply trying to play hero ball, or showcase themselves.  In other words I don't think summer league is a good indicator of what any individual player will become in the NBA.

As we all know...JB became a pretty good "little" player.

I have not watched Hardy, or any of the players, because of time constraints...and because I don't think it is a good indicator of a future career.

He wasn't very good, but I left summer league encouraged.  He was able to get to the rim, but just didn't finish.  I certainly didn't seeing him develop into an elite finisher at the rim, but thought he would eventually get better at it.  It also felt like the pro 3 pointer was just out of his range with his set shot.  I thought because he shot well in college, that he would eventually be a good three point shooter.  Jalen was also a much more mature player than Hardy.   Summer league is probably not the best place for Jalen to shine.  I think summer league is set up for Jalen to shine.

So I am a little disappointed in his play.  I still saw some things I liked.  I like his ability to change speeds and also get his shot off.   He just needs a lot of work.   Even though he didn't show it much, I do think he is a natural scorer.

Missed shot for JH to start....shooting woes continue.

Lawson with GREAT take with speed to get the opening bucket.

For being a guy whose great strength is "getting buckets" (as Nico put it)....JH is NOT doing that.

Pretty poor D from JH on a couple possessions there.

Mavs are the only team without a win in Vegas and off to another brutal start.

JH 0-3. 0 pts with 2 TOs in the 1st....just playing terrible basketball right now. If I wasn't trying to HOPE him into being an NBA player I would think he is a total scrub.

Hardy is really pressing. 28 pts his 1st game, 32 pts in 3 games since. As a team, Dallas has the worst one in SL.

Is there a single player on the roster that doesn´t look like a scrub? It´s summer league and maybe they are just in over their heads. Cannot handle the pressure. But I don´t see NBA talent on this roster.

He sure is playing like one. Trying to live up to lofty expectations bestowed upon him. Needs to relax and stop trying to do too much.

Most SL rosters are just mostly scrubs IMO. Yes, the Mavs roster looks worse, but in some ways that is because I don't see ANY NBA level talent whereas most teams have 1-3 NBA level players. We can blame the talent around JH....but honestly JH looks bad. Don't try to make me sunshine pump!
