Theo Maledon has already become my favorite playmaker.

He shot 46%/39%/85% in 2018-19.....then this past year shot 42%/33%/77% against better competition (jumping from Eurocup to Euroleague) but also had an injury to his shooting shoulder. 

If his 18/19 shooting numbers are his true self then I would take him all day at #18....but wonder if the regressed numbers are more accurate? 

After 18/19 I think many projected him as a top 5 pick, but this last year was really disappointing and didn't show the leap many thought would happen.

If you’re looking for the most likely trade partner for Dallas on draft night, it’s probably Oklahoma City. The Thunder has two assets that are the Mavericks' radar, Gallinari and swingman Danny Green, and are motivated sellers.

Technically Gallinari is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the free agency window opens on Friday, but his current team, Oklahoma City, holds the best possibility of facilitating a deal for a projected over-the-cap team like Dallas through a sign-and-trade.

The No. 18 draft spot also reportedly is of interest to Oklahoma City — which owns the Nos. 25 and 28 picks — if 7-foot, 200-pound, 18-year-old Serbian Aleksej is still available at No. 18.

Dallas also reportedly has interest in Aleksej, although the logical choice would be to pick among whichever of the deep crop of wings falls to No. 18. But if the Mavericks believe they will get Gallinari or Green, their need for a wing lessens.

A source said the No. 18 pick definitely would not be in play in a deal for Green, but perhaps Dallas' No. 31 pick would be. That’s the pick Dallas offered the Lakers when it tried to trade for Green last February. Adding to the intrigue of Dallas-OKC factors is the Thunder’s two late-round picks, which opens the potential of Dallas dealing No. 18 but staying in the first round at Nos. 25 or 28.

On draft night, there’s usually myriad possibilities. Often, teams will have just-in-case deals in place with franchises drafting ahead of them, in the event a coveted player is still available.

Interesting that Gallo is the name mentioned and not Oubre. That opens up the possibility of moving back as 18 by itself for Gallo is too much. Intriguing.

It feels to me there are 15-16 guys everyone likes and at 18 it is a little iffy you get one of those.

I personally think there is a bit of a consensus drop right around 16 and then you get like 30 guys that are all clumped pretty closely.

I think there is a chance someone you really like slides to 18, but if you don't get that then I think you are better off trading back and getting another asset.

Curious to see the Mavs draft board. If it is similar with a top 16 and one of those guys aren't there at 18... I'm punting on the draft and getting what I can out of it. I want the best value with the pick and at some point trading it becomes the far superior option instead of reaching.
