For all the grief he gets in this forum, Donnie found DFS frpm scraps. Plus Brunson, Kleber., and Powell in a way (whether we like him or not). That's the core of this team, found from nothing.
Then he was smart enough to land Luka.
Credit where credit is due.

DFS deserves every penny. He's a limited player. But he's damn good at hustling and defense. He can hit a three every once in a while too.
I think this contract will be one of our most valuable assets moving forward.

Fabulous move by the Mavs.
We didn't make the cut but thanks for all the support!

+1. Not to mention Barea, Josh Howard and others. He made bad moves no doubt. But, he hit on some really good players too.

Credit where credit is due. I always thought Donnie was a very good top scout. Unfortunately, he was extremely bad at the other vital aspects of the GM job, free agency and trades in particular. It seems like Nico was hired specifically to target those weaknesses: he's a guy extremely experienced in building relationships with players and signing contracts.

Based on the last 6 months I think we are all going to miss Donnie.

So far Nico is responsible for THJ, Bertans and Dinwiddie. Nearly 70 mil in bench players. I think we might be better off with Donnie.

I'm not with the "We love our bios in Blue" crowd, and I'm not even a fan of DFS.
But that dude has given Dallas a discount in his current salary and I think he did it again in this extension.
If he plays the way he plays now for the duration of those coming 4 years, I would hate it if he gets traded.
Yes he isn't a star but I' hope he remains a Mav for a long time.
Swing swing DFS.

Good signing for both sides. DFS deserves to get paid, and is a good glue guy and on all accounts, a good locker room guy as well.
Locked in at a decent price, he's also a positive asset, in the even he ever needs to be moved, it won't be difficult to get a good return for him.

WOJ says $55.5 million, player option, and trade kicker
Does that mean the 4th year is a player option? or 4 guaranteed and a 5th year option?

Basically he got maximum they could pay him, with all the benefits (trade kicker), which make his contract less attractive in the trade.
