It would probably take a FRP or Brunson and if the plan is Lowry/THJ, we need to go all in on Mitchell Robinson. Our best shot at that is Brunson. Mavs have tried to improve perimeter defense with both Wright and Richardson, but if you can't funnel drives to a shot blocker, defense gets real tricky.

If my last post is correct of the Mavs current angle.... Here is why I'm intrigued by it.
#1 you unload Powell and don't have that on the cap next summer. #2 Lowry on a big 2 year deal even if completely guaranteed would be easily movable next summer. Expiring deal for a good player no matter the cost is very movable if not considered an asset then. Based on current market it seems like it would be an asset assuming no huge drop off. #3 If you decide to move Lowry, you'll have a ton of money to spend next summer. If you keep him, you'll have money the following summer of 2023. Both good free agent classes any way you slice it. Stars, RFA, and overall good players. Also Lowry is arguably the best UFA on the market thats playing next year. That's a huge get. He'd definitely make us better and although I don't think that he gets us anywhere near a title yet, I think Mavs definitely get out of the 1st and could possibly go to conference finals (story of his career). That alone could be huge for free agency recruiting and he does allow you to have flexibility. Mavs IMO are clearly planning on star chasing and finding ways to be able to have cap space if needed.

Send Powell to Orlando to reunite with Mosley. I think they’d be happy to have him. Attach a 2nd or 2.

It's not a huge money difference between the 2 and Kleber is undoubtedly the better player but more importantly is essentially an expiring deal if you want him to be do to his non-guaranteed deal next year. I honestly have no idea what the cost is to unload Powell or Richardson. Perhaps the cost is green (I'm way less cool about the move then). But I'm cool with trading Terry or Bey even tho I'm excited for them.

Losing Maxi would be a bummer from a depth perspective but he's a positive asset. Buying cap space for Richardson I would assume is a SRP or two. He's certainly more useful than Wright and it wasn't all that expensive getting off of that contract. Assuming we jettison WCS and Boban, that leaves you with KP, Powell and Bey. Need a lot of help there. Time to re-recruit D12, give Noel a hot dog and do business with the Knicks again.

Sometimes it takes a couple of years to figure out the playoffs. He improved a lot from the 2020 playoffs to 2021. And what happened to him in the losses was connected to what happened to the whole team and happened against a team that could have easily won the west. I don't think you lose to the Clippers and then conclude that THJ is nothing. Get the right additions that put THJ and DFS down a notch in the pecking order and watch what that, plus their new found playoff experience, does for them. I think we'll find that THJ is a winning piece. Having said that, if you can use him to get something better then do it.

I'm adamant in my take on THJ, which is that he's great for the Mavs - as a sixth man. Even then, he's less than ideal, because he can't create his own shot (which is what you want from a sixth man). He cannot start next to Luka because of defense. He's JET. Don't Cut the Check.

@"Scott41theMavs" You can get him on a 2 year deal if it's a near max deal IMO assuming the 3 for 90 deal he is looking for is accurate.
His 2 year max is somewhere around 2 for 80. And if teams aren't fully guaranteeing the last year of his deal (IMO likely based on salary and age), then it's going to be near the same deal or possibly even more if you fully guarantee both years. its working right clutch

What about a Sign and Trade for Lowry in exchange for the following:
1. Opted-in JRich, 2. Dwight Powell, Canadian, Raptors need a center, 2 year contract, not that ugly anymore, 3. Brunson, a very good back up guard. 4. Josh Green if necessary. Salary for Lowry would be ideally be at 25M/year.
