They don't want to max him.

My thoughts exactly.
To do both with cap space, Dallas will likely need to dump not only JRich but also another bigger contract like Maxi. Or if they do it via S&T, maybe Toronto takes JRich/Maxi/WCS for Lowry. Both are doable, but it's a balancing act when competition is involved. This is the time of year when all of the unofficial pre-FA discussions really count.

Giving Lowry 90/3 would be so Mavericks. New GM, same as the old GM.
Is this the moment I point out that Lowry is 34 years old and the Raptors were 12-6 without him last season, when they were still trying in the early part of the season.
I just hope it´s a misdirect and Stein gets the legit scoops on the actual signings in exchange.
Also like to point out that Stein is now a freelancer and he has to pump up the volume to generate his income.

Nah. They have to reach the salary floor and even with the Kemba monster contract they can give him the max easily.
Let´s not forget the Thunder were in the play-off chase last year, until Presti pulled the plug on Horford/SGA/Hill, because he was unhappy with them winning so much. Forced a healthy SGA to not play basketball for the second half of the season. Presti can´t do that to him again, so he´s looking to trade him.

The Mavs have never signed a free agent of Lowry’s stature. This would be a new accomplishment. I would be surprised if it is a fully guaranteed deal over 3 years - the sign-and-trade would require at least 3 years.
We all know you’d prefer the Mavs to fill out the roster with raw, unproven 19 year olds.

Luka's timeline matters...
Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

I think timeline matters some, but good teams are usually composed of a combo of youth and vets. The roster is gong to have to change at least a bit every year

? Luka is absolutely capable of being the best player on a championship team right now. Luka is a perennial MVP candidate, now. Luka is a top 3 player in the league, now.
Forget Luka’s age for a moment. Read the above. Do you agree? Do you also agree then that the Mavs should do everything in their power to improve the team with the goal of winning a championship as soon as possible?
Luka’s timeline says it is time to win now.

Chasing Lowry is a bummer. He'll turn 147 during the season. At least someone will be older than Jalen.

I have no issue with Lowry other than his age.
I am confused why we want a starting PG at Lowry's salary level when we already have the best PG/PF in the game? That seems to be a lot to pay for giving Luka a rest every few possessions. Seems like hiring Isaiah Thomas while you still have Magic Johnson in your starting lineup. Great to have the talent on the team, but not sure how the workload splits up.

On the bright side, if we give 147 year old Lowry the 90/3, that´s also like signing 50% of Kawhi Leonard, cause he´s the reason for half of Lowry´s projected salary.

The NBA has changed. A secondary playmaker is our biggest need. A wing like Kahwi could fill that need, but a guard who can defend (like Lowry) could fill that need as well. Why would the Suns bring Chris Paul in when they already had Booker?

Because he would be by far our best perimeter defender. Because he is the secondary play maker and creator that we desperately need. Because he has plenty of history playing off ball and doing it well. Honestly the fit is just about perfect. The only issue is the age.
