If the Clippers win out, they are the 3rd seed. If they lose one and Denver wins, they switch their seeds.
The Clippers play Houston and Oklahoma in their last two games. I don’t really see them lose either game even if they rest their stars. If the Clippers lose one game, then Denver will have the chance to pick their opponent by winning or losing their last game.

Once upon a time a farmer went to a market and purchased a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage. On his way home, the farmer came to the bank of a river and rented a boat. But crossing the river by boat, the farmer could carry only himself and a single one of his purchases: the wolf, the goat, or the cabbage.
If left unattended together, the wolf would eat the goat, or the goat would eat the cabbage.
The farmer's challenge was to carry himself and his purchases to the far bank of the river, leaving each purchase intact. How did he do it?

There is a possibility Mavs lose one of the remaining two games and Denver can "choose" to play against Portland or Dallas by winning/losing their match. Of course the winning part is not exactly given

Reading between the lines I see a Wade reference, a Dirk reference, and a basketball reference...
Does this story end with the GOAT standing over the Wolf who is pretending his eyesight was compromised?...

I thought the traditional version of that riddle was a Unicorn, GOAT and hot dogs but my mind is fuzzy.

In the end the Goat ate the wolf and the cabbage, took the farmers boat to find Jessica, then came back and told the farmer he'd hang around a bit until the baby goat could hanlde things on his owrn. The baby goat got a unicorn, but we're not sure yet whether that mattered much.

If the Mavs win out, they play Denver. LAC won't lose again so the rest doesn't matter much.

Yes, if the Mavs win out and the Clippers somehow manage to defeat both the Rockets and the Thunder, then Denver will be #4 and Dallas will be #5.
Simple.

Oh that's easy. First the farmer takes the goat to the other side and leaves it there. The farmer sails back and then picks up the wolf. But once he drops the wolf on the other side he picks up the goat and brings it back to the first place. He then leaves the goat and takes the cabbage to the other side.
Finally the farmer trades KP.

He most certainly did.
I was a vocal advocate for Dipo. Still was until reading that he could be out an entire season after the surgery. Sheeesh. Snake bitten.

I mean, I get it. The dude was stellar for that one season, right before he got hurt. It's tempting to hope he can be that again. But, when Kamm posted that article claiming that Oladipo's quad injury was worse than a ruptured achilles, and then no team in the NBA seemed interested in trading for him, I think the writing was on the wall.

Next question ...
Who do the Nuggets prefer for their first-round opponent, Portland or Dallas?
The Nuggets have a lot of control over their first-round match-up, especially if Portland beats Phoenix tonight.
Well ...
Portland did not beat Phoenix last night [WOOHOO!!!], but my question (from yesterday) still stands:
Who do the Nuggets prefer for their first-round opponent, Portland or Dallas?
*********************************************************************************************
The Clippers last two games are tonight against the pathetic Rockets and on Sunday versus the Thunder (who need to tank because they are tied with Orlando for third-worst record in the NBA).
If the Clippers go 2-0, then the Clippers will be the #3 seed and Denver will be the #4 seed, regardless of the outcome of Denver's final two games. As I suggested yesterday, the Nuggets could very easily screw the Lakers by "tanking" against the Blazers on Sunday.
To answer Dan's question about Denver having some ability to "pick their opponent by either winning or losing the last game with Portland" ...
Yes, there are several possible scenarios of interest.
For example, if [1] the Clippers win out; and [2] the Lakers DO NOT win out (i.e., the Lakers lose at least one of their last two games); and [3] the Mavs win exactly one of their last two games; then a Denver win vs. Portland would give the Nuggets a first-round match-up with the Mavs [#3 Clippers, #4 Nuggets, #5 Mavs, #6 Blazers, #7 Lakers], while a Denver loss vs. Portland would give the Nuggets a first-round match-up with the Blazers.
On the other hand, if [1] both the Clippers and the Lakers win out, and [2] the Mavs win exactly one of their last two games, then a Denver win vs. Portland would give the Nuggets a first-round match-up with the Mavs (and also a Lakers vs. Clippers first-round pairing) [#3 Clippers, #4 Nuggets, #5 Mavs, #6 Lakers, #7 Blazers], while a Denver loss vs. Portland would still give the Nuggets a first-round match-up with the Mavs (winners of the 3-way tie-breaker), but the Lakers and Blazers would trade places.
Etc.

I don’t really think Denver would like to play Portland. They are depleted in guard positions and they have no one to contain Portlands guard duo.

Well, the Clippers are sitting Leonard and George tonight. If they lose and Denver win tonight, we might have a much more interesting Sunday night. Maybe Denver sit their players, too and lose to the Pistons to secure the 4th seed, who knows?
4th seed means getting away from both LA teams until the conference finals.
