I mean no? That's not how statistics works.
I'm using THJ's entire career to project how he will perform. There is a larger sample size (6 seasons worth), that says THJ is a career 34% from 3. Last season he outperformed any season in his career, hitting highs in 3pt% at 39.8% and 3PM with 204. We saw THJ in the bubble shoot 34% from 3. Can THJ continue his hot shooting? Possibly. I think playing next to Luka and being in RC's system makes THJ shooting better than 34% more likely than if he was on a different team. But it'd be foolish to not be wary that THJ can regress. Especially since he already showed some signs of regression in the bubble.
Buddy on the other hand has been on bad teams. Despite this, he's consistently a top 3 shooter in the league. And I'm projecting the same environment that contributed to THJ's newfound shooting prowess will also significantly improve one of the league's best shooters into something even more.
Given that Buddy has performed this consistently on even bad teams, it shows that his shooting touch isn't a fluke. We cannot say the same for THJ at this point (there needs to be at least 2 seasons of 40% shooting for there to be definitive claims imo). And because of Buddy's established shooting, I think him in THJ's role here would be undoubtedly better overall, given the pressure he alone puts on defenses. I'm also using the career numbers of BOTH players. I'm not cherry picking stats to make an argument.

I saw someone saying that it's fair to compare THJ's stats from NYK and last years Buddy stats. That's simply not true. THJ was the 1st option on the Knicks while here, he was the 3rd option. Buddy was the 2nd,3rd option on the Kings last season behind Fox, with Bogdan. So it's fair to compare both seasons.
And saying THJ had an outlier year. He was good in ATL and he has a defined role in DAL. They also said, at the beggining of the season, that they've(Carlisle) made a minor adjustment in THJ's shot, and it clearly was a good adjustment. THJ will be a 40+ 3P% shooter this year. He is a great and thankfull player, that shows effort on D(meanwhile Buddy makes Boban look like AD/Giannis with his defense). Also Buddy is a one dimensional shooter(altho a great one), but this team doesn't need one dimensional players. The mavs need the exact opposite.

Can I borrow your crystal ball?
If you don't want one dimensional players, that should cross both THJ and Hield off your list.
If THJ ends up with a similar contract and given the choice, I know who I'd choose.

I won't give assets to get Hield, like at all.
I couldget a direct deal of THJ for Hield, it will make the Kings able to get similar player for someone who is causing problems there.
But for me, my priority is SF, only true SF we have here is DFS,THJ/JRich/Green are guards, Bey & Johnson are more of PF.

I remember last year when the Kings benched Buddy. Not sure what the deal was since I seldom watch Kings games unless they're playing the Mavs. I'm guessing the Kings got a close up look at Buddy and liked him better coming off of the bench. That seemed to cause a problem for Buddy. Again, don't know what the deal was. Difference of opinion with his boss (Coach Walton), I'm guessing. I hope that doesn't mean he doesn't accept coaching. That can be a problem. There are more things than stats when it comes to desirability of a player being on a team. Some guys are hard to root for. I want those guys on the other team, not the Mavs.

Not to bag on DP but I am not sure why Powell is even playing. He is a good dude but he is not a top 8 rotational piece on a playoff team right now. The Mavericks may have screwed up by passing on guys like Precious Achiuwa.

I'm hoping TBey can provide the rim running that Powell used to provide and will be a much better defender. We may need to accelerate the development process.

THJ is not going to be fun when KP is out. It messes up the whole balance of everything. When KP is in then THJ just shoots wide open shots.

If Donnie finds someway to trade Powell+THJ+Brunson for Turner and Dipo I'd officially never criticize the MBT ever again. Scouts honor.

get it done Donnnie After reading this, the writer doesn't suggest what it would take to acquire both of them. That's pretty much the crux of making this kind of claim. The Pic doesn't show JRich though which probably makes him outgoing (and would HAVE to be our major outgoing piece IMO). Not sure how I feel about that. I really like what I've seen from him so far and want to see how he develops here.
In lieu of VO, since I think we're fine without him having JRich here, I'd still love to see a way we could get Turner here while keeping JRich. Turner pushing DFS to the 3 spot would make everything right in the world IMO. I think a Turner trade starts with Kleber cause I think he and Sabonis would be a great pairing on D and O.

J-Rich makes no sense. He´s a UFA and would likely just walk.
Indiana usually likes to have players. I don´t think you can talk anybody into Powell. Batum was the only chance for that.
Oladipo + Turner for THJ + Kleber + Brunson + Green + Johnson, maybe throw in another pick.

I just want a real PF who would fit next to KP and push DFS to SF...wish that could be Powell but if not Donnie needs to acquire us one if KP and Powell look bad together...
