I have been 99% sure Mavs would trade these picks but with 2021 coming up how can they get role players on cheap deals unless they draft them? So with that maybe they do draft at least one player?
DRAFT: #18 [Green] & #31 [Terry] & trade for #36 [Tyler Bey]

They should research hard and get the guy they want, trading up if necessary. (08-28-2020, 07:36 AM)Derek Nowitzki Wrote: Cole Anthony is the guy. Not necessarily for this team, but he looks like a star. I don’t follow college basketball, but from what I’ve seen based on scouting videos, he’s the best available in our range. I think the thing that really stands out is his ‘smoothness’, the same thing that I thought Donovan Mitchell had coming out of college. Maintains touch and scores through contact, very impressive indeed. Can make a great shot despite being well defended. That's what you look for in a star player. Can make something not only when he is open, but also when well defended. I think thats the most important skill to look for when scouting. Rebounds well, is not a bad passer at all. He would be great next to Luka. Can shoot the 3 really well from what I see, what are his stats there? Seems also very athletic, and thats promising for the defense. He even mentions the fit next to Doncic.Yeah was my pick at #18, too. Not much vertically imho, but very crafty and fast. I think how the vertical effects his game in the NBA will determine, whether he´ll be special or shitty. But he seems to have a good floater, which somewhat negates the potential rim finishing problem. Im just watching his highlights etc. Seems very shy of contact, thats a bad sign perhaps. Always choses the floater instead of going for the rim. Very athletic, great floater. When he is open he is impressive, its just that in NBA only few plays he will be that wide open in the paint. Has a good 3 pt shot it seems. Can go either way, star or a bench role. Cole seems much safer pick IMO, he finishes through contact almost as well as when he is wide open. He will be a solid stater as a minimum, potentially a star, IMO.
How about Saddiq Bey? He is not athletic, but can bully his way to the rim, he has the size. Absolute elite shooter and quick release, if he is left alone he would do better than THJ and DFS. Has potential to be a very good defender.
Brings the mid range game that we are really missing. Much better passer than given credit for. I think he is more than just a 3 & D. He is that, yes. But he can also pass better than the regular 3 & D player, and post up (very well) and nail the mid range jumper consistently. He gets well to the rim using his size. He is more a Kawhi, thus more an all around basketball player, than just a 3 & D guy. What sticks out in his shooting is how well he shoots when defended well. This translates to the NBA. This will be an excellent pick, whoever makes it!

I think both Beys would be great fits. They remind me of the Bridges brothers. One a little bit more skilled. The other more athletic but a worse shooter. Both good defenders.
Cuban mentioned that the Mavs want to be buyers this offseason. Pick Saddiq with #18 and buy a late first to pick Tyler. People basically saw his highlights and projected him as a top 5 pick at the start of the season. Those garbage shooting numbers are the reason he's fallen far enough down draft boards to be in the Mavs range. He also has a volume scorers mentality (chucker) and very old for a kid who only just played his freshman year. If he isn't a star, his mentality will be a problem, unless he's a bench scorer. He's also really not much of a passer, very much the volume scorer type. Much higher risk IMO.(08-28-2020, 07:36 AM)Derek Nowitzki Wrote: Cole Anthony is the guy. Lewis on the otherhand is over a year younger, and has almost Fox, young Devin Harris level speed, definitely the fastest player in the draft. That is an instant advantage he will have that will even carry over into the NBA, even if it's more straight line explosiveness and not really vertical. Not as consistent an iso scorer, but that doesn't really bother me, especially at his age. He has excellent body control and touch, is a much better and more selective shooter than Anthony and given the kid is 19, adding bulk is definitely something he can do which will make him less contact avoidant. But his footwork, speed and body control give him the abilty to blow past and slither around defenders pretty well as is. I can see him being something of a slightly less explosive, and less vertical version of Dearron Fox down the line. He's a much better shooter than Fox coming out of college also. He has more potential than Anthony to be a non star starter I think, given his mentality and compliment to Luka. Especially as an off ball player with his spot up shooting.

I like Dan's idea of trading the 31st pick for a future 1st. I also like the prospect of Tyler Bey, but as stated we could probably trade down from 18 and still get him. So how about trading down w/Philly for # 21 and picking up some of there 2nd rnd picks?

After looking at all of the prospects in that range around #18, I gotta say how can we NOT go with Josh Green? Seems to be everything we need. Good size, 6'5"-ish, wingspan, athletic, good defender, and showed signs of being a decent 3-pt shooter.
I think he could be like Gary Harris, someone who can guard the 1 and 2/3. Not easy finding those types of guards. Plus, he is Australian, which adds to the international appeal for Cuban

He can do the same things on offense, but he should be able to defend SFs and smaller PFs, while Kleber can defend the bigger PFs. Powell can really defend nobody, since the PFs bully him and the SFs are too fast. It´s so hard to project this draft, but I´d also like to buy another 1st rounder. Make the value (?) grab at #18, because somebody will fall there. Then pick up T. Bey and Ramsey later.

I think this is a great year to get some extra assets. I'd love to come away with 2 drafted players and using 2 picks as sweeteners in draft day trades meaning we would need to buy 2 picks for $5M or trade to get 2 picks or a combination of both. I think Phi is the easiest target for buying or getting to add picks into a trade.

So how about something like this: Dal: Scott, #34, #36 New Orl (they already have 3 second rounders): Jackson, 5 mil cash Phi: future protected second rounder

That 26 looks rather enticing and there is no way they want 3 guaranteed money players right meow. Min’s either 17 or 33 (or both) would be good as well since they have the #1. NO with 13, 38, 40 and 60 wouldn’t be bad to make a call to.

Is there a way we could get both Haliburton and Sadiq Bey in this draft?
Luka Haliburton Sadiq Bey KP This would set the foundation for the next decade. Haliburton is like Reggie Miller, while Sadiq Bey is like Kawhi. Obviously I do not believe they will become as that great, but they have similar skill sets. I believe they will become great players. They are both high IQ players, that know baketball, this is clear observing them play. Something you just cant teach. Experts have still trouble defining just exactly how Luka gets past NBA defenders. Its basketball IQ and movements, different for every play, just pure instincts. Watching some of these prospects these two (haliburton and Sadiq) stand out to me (at least so far), there is just some basic instinct inherent in their game that is hard to define exactly what it is. Both of them can make plays and assist as well as create on their own. Add one experienced big that can rim roll, and play D. (08-31-2020, 10:57 AM)burekemde Wrote: How about Saddiq Bey? He is a dog, very intense, and will make his money on defense, hustle, Rb, and not taking any crap.
The Mavs need to find their Tyler Herro in this draft. I'm tired of seeing all these teams find and play rookies in their lineups while the Mavs can find no on ever.
Lu Dort, Tyler Herro, Kendrick Nunn, Darius Bazley, Keldon Johnson, Terrance Davis, Matisse Thybulle were all players drafted lower from a "bad draft" that are all playing big minutes on teams contending for playoffs or more. This would be a great time to invest/develop in that type of player who grows as a core player and with Luka on the Mavs. NO MORE EXCUSES. |
