Yep 100% agree. I bet management sees it as well. And maybe some of their approach to everything is to allow Luka to learn this lesson himself so the change comes from his own internal motivation. He has to get a rigorous diet like Dirk did if he is going to truly take the team places.

Of course. However he is extremely young. As Kamm said, they are surely working on this and will continue to do so. But, there is only so much of development of basketball skills you can do. You have to look at the big picture. Level of basketball player Luka is at his age is historical. He is improving and will continue to improve on all aspects of his game, I have no worries about that.

Honestly, if he keeps doing what he's doing lately, there's no way we can call him the 2nd best player on the team. Doesn't mean we can call him the best, just can't call him 2nd best.

The whole idea was to have dual stars.
Looks like we got our wish!

Mavs can limp to an 8th seed and get swept in the 1st round, and this season has been a wild success from a big picture level just from KP's development and developed chemistry with Luka/Carlisle alone.

I think KP is having damn near the same impact on games as Luka right now. They are getting more and more to equals as far as I'm concerned. You can't ignore the impact KP has on the defensive end and for the last 5 weeks or so he's pretty even with Luka. They are more like a 1A and 1B instead of clear cut 1&2. That's assuming KP continues to play at his current level. KP is better than I hoped for this season. I didn't expect this kind of impact until next year to he honest.

So the Mavs have 3 of the top 8 pick setters by this measure? I’m elated that all three guys are there, but isn’t this more of a testament to Luka’s greatness? Doesn’t seem to matter much which big sets the pick, you’re gonna score. KP’s rising play level just makes it even more efficient.
One question though, the best shown here is KP at 1.202 (I’m guessing that is points per play), but the team efficiency is 1.298. What is the delta due to? FTs? Lower # of 3pters in PnR? Since KP/Luka is #1 I’m guessing it’s a good play, just trying to understand the stats a little better.

I have to say, Donnie gets a lot of flak for some of his moves over the years but when he hits, he hits big. This Luka, KP combo is really salty. That KP deal might be one of the most lopsided deals of all time. Only way Knicks can salvage it at all is if they get lucky with one of those Mavs picks.
You have to think Luka + KP is one of the best young combos in the league.
Booker + Ayton is pretty good. KAT + D'Lo is good and I really like Zion + Ingram. Embiid + Simmons is good but their pairing long-term to me is still an issue. I'd still rather have Luka + KP over any of those other combinations. I would probably pick Ingram + Zion as my next favorite as they are both super young still and extremely talented.
I LOVE finally seeing PnR with Luka / KP. We see how great it is now. It was completely ridiculous for Rick and his media parrots to say that KP shouldn't be rolling to the basket earlier in this year. It irritates me that media people just take a quote from the coach at face value and repeat it like they are so smart. Why did Rick say what he said ab KP and switches and all that? Not sure. I think it's clear tho that with Powell out there maybe for spacing purposes they needed Powell to be the primary roll man. Maybe Rick just didn't want to say that Powell can't shoot from outside and never will so he needs to be the roll guy. At any rate that chapter is behind us now. KP is not going to play with a roll man bc he has a crazy amount of space to work with when he's the 5 the majority of his minutes.

Got a #2 AND #3 guy (maybe #1B and #3?) for a couple of late future 1st round picks (one protected) and an in-the-doghouse semi-starter. They don't even get the 1st pick until next year, 2021, after KP has played 2 full seasons in DAL. Barring injury, I don't see how the NYKs are going to get anything to provide similar value.
