MAVS NEWS:
(10-28-2026, 11:08 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Ok…but DURING the best, most fun Mavs watch of the past two years?!

Multi-task my brother.  I'm way more excited about this team than I thought I would be.  Some players may return back down to earth, but I'm impressed by May and what he's gotten from a bunch of castoffs and veterans we assumed mostly looked good because of Luka.   A little hope is a dangerous thing, but hope is being put into me and occupying some of the space that the trauma of the last few years has caused.

I was 100% multi tasking, had the game and like three browser windows up across two monitors.

I genuinely don't get why some fans think its their place to tell other fans to do this. It's like you're only allowed to enjoy the current iteration of the team if you treat the Luka era like it never happened, and if you don't, that clearly means you are stuck in the past and not capable of enjoying what's happening now. It's utterly nonsensical IMO and pretty prevalent amongst Mavs fans across social media

The Mavs would never have been in the lottery with  Luka still playing for us that season. Yes, god, and everyone else, knows we got fleeced by the LAL in that trade. But could you say (especially with what we’re seeing now) that the Mavs came out ahead in the assets they gained from the Luka trade + Flagg? I think it’s a valid argument.

I was and still am a Luka fan. He’s a good guy. But let’s face it, he was and still is immature. That’s what always got me with him….the arguing and complaining, the lingering back behind the play to complain to the referee…..especially after watching Dirk play for 21 years. Cooper came in as an 18 year old rookie more mature than Luka is now. To watch Cooper impact the game in a major way on both ends of the floor is a thing of beauty, and honestly, is something I’ve never seen happen in a Mavericks uniform over the last 46 seasons. And one more thing….as the father of 3 boys, you have to give it to Coop’s parents for raising him right.  As a teenaged phenom, he might be a much different person now if not for the obvious values and lessons his parents taught him.

I remember watching the draft lottery live in the middle of the night here in Germany, for whatever reason with our slim chances.

And I remember like it was yesterday when there were only the Spurs and us left, after both had jumped.

Rewind to today and Harper is a great talent, so not taking anything away from him:

Could you imagine Wemby and Flagg playing together in San Antonio?

The league would have been doomed for one and a half decades. And we as Mavs would suffer the most with our long term interstate rivals having both generational talents.

Thanks basketball god, Silver, Dirk or whoever!

BTW, I have been genuinely shocked at how well the offense has grown even when Coop/Kyrie are not on the floor.

I will say one thing from the early returns and that is May could be the greatest of the Mavs coaches ever IF he develops a Rick Carlisle like in-bound play repertoire.
One of the best ways Rick scored to break a scoring drought was to call a timeout and run a set play from S-OB or BL-OB. Rick rarely called timeouts 92 feet away from the basket.

I think May has done an exceptional job in getting an offense installed and a better job at building team culture. Better than Rick and J-Kidd. I don't necessarily see the sets that get buckets when the game grinds down, but there are signs.

The #Mavs announce they will honor Hall of Fame coach Don Nelson on Nov. 18, when they host the #Warriors.

The celebration will feature special in-arena tributes, highlights of Nelson’s Mavericks legacy & contributions from family, former players, coaches & friends. The first 10,000 ticketed fans will receive a commemorative Nellie-inspired deck of playing cards, and players will wear special Nellie shooting shirts during pregame warmups.

The Mavs will also donate $25,000 in Nelson’s name to the Humane Society of North Texas to honor his love for animals.

I think I saw in fine print at the bottom of the announcement that you need to bring your own snack-size ziplock baggie to claim a “bonus” gift.

Agreed with everything except for the Yaxel part at the very end.  I may change my mind on this, but I think if he is already showing this level of knucklehead its eventually going to be a problem (not to mention the other caveat that we have to wait three years to really compare the two).

Yaxel has a big, annoying mouth and Kerr has smartly thrown shade at him in press conferences ("hey if you want to run your mouth, I can too"), but I'm not sure I put him into knucklehead category yet which I'd reserve for the likes of Morant.  He might be close to his ceiling as a player, but he's played really well.

I don't know that he has the same off court concerns as somebody like Morant, but the rumors were lack of maturity that I think go beyond a big mouth (and are concerning given his age).  I would be willing to bet Morez was May's first choice and Yaxel knucklehead nature was at least part of the reason.

Well you could also argue that the Mavs would be the perfect landing place for Yaxel as May understand how to manage his warts and utilize him for team success, but I digress, depending on how that immaturity manifests, he could move into what I'd classify as knucklehead but verbal popping off doesn't cross that line yet.  Even with Rez's sloooow start, I'm not advocating one way or the other and kidnapping/truth serum aside, we'll never know who May's pick would have been. Heck, it could even even been Killer's favorite player from the Zombie Sonics.

Posted this in the Risacher thread but this might be the single biggest Mavs news of the season so far.

Risacher came to Dallas on a flier, but he seems to have won over Cooper himself: “I think we are 15 to 20 points better with [ZR] just doing the little things,” Flagg said. “The shots will fall. All that, I don’t even care about it. When he just goes out there and competes at the highest level how he can, he makes us so much better with his versatility all over the court. He’s been huge for us.”

I posted about this when I heard Cooper say it.  Kyrie's also heaped praise.  Easy to see why they picked up his option.

Yaxel would not be getting 20 and 8 on the Mavs roster. He’d be fighting PJ for minutes and getting maybe 10 and 4.

Like Cooper last year he is ultra high usage on the Warriors. Also, unlike Copper last year, he has a superstar that demands the defense attention and allows him to breathe.

Morez is getting 7.5 and 4 with us and he’s 4.5 years younger than Yaxel. People need to pump the brakes in comparisons.
