It does irk me some when Mavs fans say that the FRP sent out was a "fake first", as if pick #21 would never be a possibility. Sure, it was protected 1-20, but almost all of us here were wanting the Mavs to move up to that range to grab a guy we liked. Also, here are where every 25 and under player has been drafted, that is currently a Mav:

2021 Draft: Santi Aldama (30)
2022 Draft: Max Christie (35)
2023 Draft: Jett Howard (11), Dereck Lively (12), Marcus Sasser (25), Tarik Biberovic (56)
2024 Draft: Zaccharie Risacher (1)
2025 Draft: Cooper Flagg (1), Moussa Cisse (Exhibit 10), John Poulakidas (Exhibit 10)
2026 Draft: Morez Johnson (9), Sergio de Larrea (25), Tobi Lawal (48)

How can one love the Sergio pick so much and also say that the 25th pick is fake or not worth anything. Or Aldama. Or Sasser. Or...

The Mavs did send out a first round pick this summer. They also sent out 5 second round picks. It's an indisputable fact.

On another note... Look at all those lottery picks for the Mavs the last 4 years. The rebuild is nearing an end. Watch out Spurs.

 The Grizzlies decided they'd rather have Isiah Stewart than Aldama.  Do I have any reason to believe the Mavs are better evaluators of talent that the Grizzlies front office? 

Really hard to compare Aldama to Stewart.  Just totally different players.  I would be interested to see what the teams would rate them.    Memphis is going to be a beast to play against as they start buidling their team up.  I understand picking Stewart over Aldama.  He may be the better player.  Although if you told me Edey was healthy, I think Aldama actually fits that team better.   I think I like the Aldama fit better with Dallas too.  I think there would plenty of teams who would think the opposite.

Folks call it a fake first because the belief is that it is very likely Golden State will be in the lottery in 2030 given the timeline of their best players, in which case it will turn into a second.

The absolute best thing the Mavs did this summer was establish a new culture, hire Dusty May and banish Cuban.

This is a magnitude of order more important than one draft.

I think they’ve made creative player moves, but we don’t know if they will move the needle. Time will tell.

But coaching and culture always trump everything else.

Anyone looking at players moves to judge this offseason is missing the victory of this offseason.

We probably have a more talented and deeper roster than we did with Luka and we’ve exchanged Luka for Flagg. So the talents there.

Coaching and culture is what we needed and will continue to need more than anything else.

Yep.  They will probably in full rebuild and that is currently the only first they have sent out.  It probably won't be hard for them to make sure.

Too many days without a Mavs move when they still have moves to make. Hope today is the day.

There could be a case that the clippers thing is holding something for Dallas.  Although it is probably more likely that Dallas just doesn’t like any deals currently available and are waiting to see if any of the other teams reengage later in the summer.  At the moment Dallas is not on the clock as some other teams are.  They can be patient if they don’t like any of the deals on the table.  Eventually they will need to reduce a roster spot but that doesn’t need to be solved now.

After reducing the roster spot, the big question is if they will go into the season with the  roster  as is if no good deals presents itself?

To that end, Cisse's deal is currently non-guaranteed on Spotrac.  The first $1,092,558 doesn't guarantee until 9/1 with the rest guaranteeing on 10/1.  Bear in mind those dates were set by NY, not Dallas.

Regarding Klay, we tend to think in terms of a trade having to be done before the season starts, but a $17mm expiring contract has value at the TDL too.

Man, I think this Kawhi Leonard thing has a ton of teams' plans messed up. I'm not sure how anything moves forward without at least knowing whether that trade goes through or not.
