Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
NBA should have moved faster.  Clippers losing that #5 pick should have been the resolution.

It sounds like any penalty may be forced on Leonard.  Not surprising with all the $$ Balmer has, but I think the Clippers are the ones who should be hit hardest.   They protest they were scammed.   I don't believe it though.

lol, I see what you did there.

And at this rate that's probably a fair question...

A part of me feels bad that the Raptors would be the ones to suffer for this, but the rest of me questions why they got into the Kawhi business when it was so uncertain.

Punishing Kawhi and punishing the Clippers should be two different issues. When NCAA teams tamper, etc. they aren't punished by not being able to sign the athlete - that's a given. There are other penalties. Someone in the Discord said that Wagler should be gifted to the Pacers. That's the least that ought to happen. They should have a lower salary cap than the other teams for five years, be banned from the lottery, hundreds of millions in fines, etc.

You know they found wrongdoing on the basis of 1) the league bothering to tell the Raptors this, and 2) the tweet in the Discord that everyone expects the investigation findings, and resolution of the situation, by the Board of Governors meeting.

Make the punishment fit the crime - Clippers have to give Kawhi a max contract. Kawhi gets suspended for some amount of games, and has to donate X percentage of that contract to planting trees. Smile

Here's a good thread explaining the situation Denver is facing:

There's just no way they pay Watson, IMO.

I mean, didn't Pablo already do all of the work for the investigation? And you're not gonna warn the teams before they agree to a trade? NBA is run very poorly these days. But I guess the drama is fun in July.

There is optimism that the Kawhi Leonard trade to Toronto trade will be “resolved” by Tuesday and will become finalized and approved “as agreed” by Tuesday after the NBA’s Board of Governors meeting, per @michaelgrange.

Oooo, I get it now.  The nba let the trade be agreed upon, so that they had more reason to just have a slap on the wrist.  Why punish poor Toronto right?  The whole leak thing that Toronto would have to accept the punishment is just saving face.

They are $20M over the cap with just the starting 5. They're not moving the needle on cap compliance unless they shed some big salaries. Plus they are only at 11 full contracts right now. Getting to 14 is going to be vet min or bust. Hard to have dependable depth that way. Could get ugly at DEN this season.

If Jokic gets fed up and declines his PO next summer, then the FA season will be wild. If he tries to hook up with Luka in LA, then they would be at ~$160M for just Luka+Jokic+Reaves. Probably get some ring hunters signing on for the minimum though.

I agree. Love to keep him here playing alongside Kyrie, and Coop. Mentoring our Shooters as well. He has 4 rings. I don't think he's desperate to join a contender like that

This place is unique. It seems like many on here are more interested in being a Monday morning GM than winning a championship. I’m the other way. A championship or bust fan. Let’s get it done type.

The ironic thing is the Wannabee GMs I see have their pet players and pet style and philosophies which are similar to what stops most teams from winning. Doing things out of emotion and not logic. Like there are Mavs fans who’d rather see Klay play with LeBron in GS and win one more championship. It’s pretty weird.

We all have different opinions, backgrounds, and experience. This place wouldn’t exist if everyone though the exact same. We’d have nothing to talk about, discuss, debate. You are posting in this unique place with your own unique perspective. That’s how it works…

I feel terrible for Klay, but I'm not sure he feels the same way or at least does an amazing job of hiding it.  The rollercoaster he's been on since game 6 of the 2019 finals and his ACL tear is kind of crazy:  recover, Achilies tear, recover again, 2022 chip, divorce from the only team you know, the hopes and dreams of Dallas that were quickly dashed by the Luka trade, to playing meaningless basketball for an organization that wanted you to lose.  He's been the consummate pro throughout and my already high respect for him has only grown.  I'm perfectly fine if he wants to be here and if he doesn't, I'd do everything reasonable to get him to a landing spot of his preference.  No idea how he is as a mentor in the locker room, but even from a far, there are lessons we could all take from him in how to handle yourself.
