Memphis adds two more power forwards

BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading two-time NBA All-Star Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray, sources tell ESPN.

I'm sure everyone in Memphis is thrilled. Nice that Boozer can have most of the healdines now.

Basically just a bad salary swap. I guess both teams can pretend that the grass is greener on the other side but fit wise the Grizzlies don't really need another forward and the Blazers don't need another PG.
More moves to come???

The Jonathan Kuminga fan club will not be happy about this.

My Google results for Blazers is jam packed with Brown rumors.

It's an interesting mix of players for them:  Dame (not 100% yet), Scoot (bust), Holiday (old), Ja (crazy)

Feels like for both.    Portland has been trying to trade Grant for two years.

This is sort of a big year for Scoot. Now he needs to compete with Dame, Jrue and Ja for minutes.   Jrue can play multiple positions but tough to see Scoot getting a big runway to run a team.  Something he needs to showcase.

Memphis is such a well run team.    I have trouble seeing Grant really fitting in there.   Murray is on a rookie contract and they can make a decision o on him later.    BTW, interesting Kings wanted Murray in the draft.  When he was picked by Portland, they traded the pick to Dallas who took Omax.  Now both are on Memphis.    Omax option was picked up earlier today.

[Haynes] The Portland Trail Blazers envision a starting backcourt of Damian Lillard and Ja Morant alongside Deni Avdija on the wing. A very unconventional move that the franchise believes has upside. Ja Morant gets his fresh start. Jerami Grant and Kris Murray off to Memphis.

So they are bringing Jrue off the bench?  What about Scoot.

Pretty smart.  If my franchise weren't going anywhere, I'd love to take a shot at rehabbing Ja to either flip or keep long term. Dame can play mentor.

He just throws stuff out there, but this does make some sense.

Acquiring Ja Morant feels like a set-up trade to me given all the Jaylen Brown rumors in Portland. Now the Blazers could feel more comfortable sending Jrue Holiday, Scoot Henderson, and Shaedon Sharpe with draft picks to Boston for Jaylen Brown. We'll see what happens.

Would you trade Gafford Boston to get Scoot if the trade above is real?

You'd really have to trust his final 20 games of this past season.

I’m sure Schmitz would know the answer.

Wouldn´t we want Sharpe? Virtual DNP in the play-offs, has just signed a new 20M per year TPE Wink contract.

Sharpe for Gafford + Klay?

Nice payday for a guy released for Mac Maclung a few years ago.

Just in: San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie intends to sign a new three-year, $45 million contract with the franchise through 2028-29, sources tell ESPN. The Spurs declined Champagnie’s $3 million team option to give him a new deal. Waived three years ago, Champagnie has become a vital part of the Spurs core.

Sharpe has his own issues, injuries being chief among them.  If Boston would be willing to route him to us, would they ask for draft compensation as well?

this type of year is absolutely bonkers in the NBA.  More enjoyable than the games.  ha.

Free agency hasn't even started yet and we had a Giannis trade, a Ja trade, sounds like Brown and Leonard are moving.    Trae Young gets a huge extension.  Lebron may be leaving.  I am sure I am missing something else.  Crazy.

[Spears] The Sacramento Kings had strong interest in Jonathan Kuminga before he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors and are expected to be interested in him now as a free agent.
