2026 NBA draft thread
(06-23-2026, 09:23 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: Two of pJ, gafford, Marshall probably not on tram next year.  Not sure which.  Initial thought it pj is the one back.  We will see though.

I think keeping PJ makes quite a lot of sense now.

Johnson is not there yet but I could see him at least be servicable from three this upcoming season unlile Gafford / Lively

SF: Flagg
PF: Washington
C: Johnson

That is probably as close to a five out offense as you can get from this roster without sacrificing too much size under the rim.

I would prioritize Morez at the five actually. Even if the shot doesnt fall he can play a role in the halfcourt offense as a rim runner. Defense should not be an issue anyway.

Grit and Grind with Boozer and Lopez.

Had heard Karim Lopez had a potential home with Memphis up at No. 16. The Grizzlies are not moving down again, sources say. They're keeping Lopez at No. 21 after gaining five additional second-rounders.

In the few games where a healty Edey plays next to Boozer they are going to be a nightmare matchup.

His value is still the same.  I hope Masai is under no hurry to just jettison him off for nothing.  Morez can play the 3,4 and 5.  Lively might play a week and get hurt again.  There is no rush to just artificially lower Gafford's value.

Masai doesn't rush. If anything he takes forever. Took forever for the Siakam trade, Lowry trade, OG trade,

Boozer scares the crap outta me.

He's going to be really good for a really long time.

I don´t like Philon, but at #30. Damn you probably have to try. Maybe the chip on his shoulder adds 30 pounds.

I know we talk about the offense and lack of creation, but in this day and age teams are scoring a lot anyway.  Even the Mavs scored a ton with a 19 year old rookie at the helm, but couldn't really stop anyone.

If elite scoring guards / forwards are the QBs of the NBA, then big, athletic switchable bigs are like cornerbacks in the NBA.  You need both.  Curry for all his greatness would not have won without someone like Draymond, despite all his craziness. I'm not saying Morez can become a Draymond because Draymond is a unique player, but defense at the 3,4 spot matters a lot.

You might get guards who can play like a Nembhardt or a Poulakidas who hit a ton of 3s but finding big athletic wings is much more difficult.

Not the pick I was expecting at 9, but given what was left and the run on forwards that ensued after the Mavs pick, I can see the Mavs thought process.

Mavs were 27th in scoring (19th in defense), so I would not argue they scored a lot.  Burries is probably not a Robin, but they need a number 3 scorer long term and don't have that.  It will be a long road to get enough quality offense (players that have the defense to operate in a starting lineup).

The value at 30 is such a no brainer.

We can feed him right in Texas. We have a history of bulking guys up.

They gonna get Monk and Lavine for the interim and they both expired in time to give us max cap space to bring home Luka in 2028.

Every single pick is prioritizing size, length and versatility. Like, all of them.

I'm not saying his value is lower because Mavs will rush.  I'm saying he has lower value because he makes no sense on this roster and other teams know that.  That won't change any time soon.

They also were missing their best player for the entire year.

And ran an archaic offense with Kidd.

I think Kyrie+ Flagg 2nd leap will help a lot offensively.

Funny Minny worked out Philon late. Everyone thought they had a secret plan to move up late lottery. May have turns out they were investigating a small trade up before moving on with the Randle trade.

If that is the plan, then mistakes have already been made.

My Mavs-related thought aligning the various moves (and non-moves) we are seeing:

TRADE INCOMING?   PJW for Wallace-Joe

Fills a lot of needs on both teams.
