MAVS NEWS:

REPORT: Klay Thompsons preferred destinations if he gets moved are Miami, Orlando, Houston, Phoenix and San Antonio.
Klay has communicated with the front office throughout the month saying he prefers warm weather and a state with no income tax.

Miami has a $16.8mm TPE that expires 7/7.  Taking Thompson into that before 7/1 is a hardcap problem from the prior season if there isn't enough returning salary.  The salary is too big to fit the TPE after 7/1.

Klay will be free to sign wherever he wants soon. I don't see why any of those teams would trade for him at $17.5M.

I believe that Hernandez is a fake.   It says he works for the Athletic and worked for the DallasNews in his profile.  I don't think that is accurate.   If you look at his takes it is a bunch of hot takes trying to read the leaves.  I would not put any faith in accuracy imo.

Fixed it.

Yes, as CJK said, the above note (and person) is apparently bogus BS. The X account has now been banned.

Fake or not, trading Klay this summer has been talked about plenty and makes a lot of sense. It's difficult to nail down the exact team(s) that could/would make it happen. One that stands out to me are the Spurs.

Both Klay and Keldon Johnson are on expiring deals, nearly identical salary. The Spurs have a pretty high SRP in this draft (#35), as well as Pick 42, and several future second round picks. The Mavs don't have a SRP in '28 or '31. The Spurs have 4 in 2028 and 2 in 2031.

I don't know what value Klay has around the league, especially to a contender like the Spurs, but to me it makes some sense. Keldon won 6MOY but has been underwhelming in the playoffs. Is Klay an upgrade off the bench for them next season? Is it worth Pick #35 and/or one or two of the (4) '28 SRP's they have?

I was pretty surprised the lack of interest in him at the deadline.  The extra year at 17 million is rough but I thought he could have helped teams last year.  Especially good teams.

I am at the point of finding a spot that he likes.  I am not expecting much.  If he brings back a similar expiring then just give me a second.  That spurs idea is a good one.

Bogus rumor aside, if Klay wants out, I do whatever possible that doesn't harm our team to get him to where he wants to go.  He's been a good soldier through a horrible set of circumstances.

So you are telling me that the Mavs should send him to the Wolves or Bucks...

For those ready to ditch Kyrie, or take the first 50c on the dollar for an all-NBA talent, or thinking he has lost health and skills, here's info you need. These days Kyrie is apparently fully cleared, as here he is playing 1-on-4 against ex-NBA players, in a teaching context. Very revealing. He's soooooooo ready to go.

I can't wait to watch Kyrie hoop in a Mavs uniform again.

Probably Kyrie will have an insane trade value at the TDL. Don't gift him now.

The #1 fundamental skill that a GM needs is the ability to gauge a player's value 1. to his own team, and 2. to other teams.

Without seeing all the constraints surrounding his GM-hood in Toronto, it appears that Masai values his own players pretty highly, and isn't willing to sell low.

Hopefully this philosophy will continue here in Dallas.

Nico seems to have substantially missed on his big trade, which has led to his current unemployment.

I don't disagree, but are the current players considered "His" players? Or just place holders until "His" guys come available?

In the wake of Dallas moving on from Jason Kidd, there have been rumblings of both Duke's Jon Scheyer and Michigan's Dusty May being linked to the vacancy. But ever since Masai Ujiri was hired to run basketball operations last month, the belief around the league is that the most likely outcome for Dallas is elevating one of the NBA's rising assistants. That's what Ujiri did the other two times he hired a coach, both with the Toronto Raptors: In 2018, he replaced Dwane Casey with Nick Nurse. In 2023, he replaced Nurse with Darko Rajakovic.

Shout out to my real ones.  @jalenbrunson1 @PJPatton52 @heathaaamau They said we weren’t a good fit for their culture.  Said we weren’t good enough in our roles.  Peter Patton, Heather Mau, Jalen. We did and will continue to do the work.
