No boot. No crutches. Honestly more important than the entire ROY stuff.
Good news. Can he stay healthy?

Although for next year, I just want him to play. I will back of what I think he can be, I just want to see him healthy. He really hasn't played much in two years. I think he should be a 20-24 minute per game player. Probably coming off the bench. Let him prove he can play that role and then we can have bigger conversations.

Blackman and Ricardi repoing the mavs at lottery again, per Stein.
Also per Stein, Mavs have yet to request permission to speak with Lindsey. If true, I assume he is not a candidate. Isn’t he a candidate for the bulls and as the number 2, there is no reason not to talk with him.

Also worth noting, while nothing official supposedly the Timberwolves #2 is the front runner for the Bulls GM (even mentioned the coach who would come with him). Again, nothing official but some reporting. If so, it would make even more sense that Connelly is not planning on going anywhere as the potential Wolves opening would be much more appealing than the Bulls opening.

This will be someone with a lot of skins on the wall, but not someone who wants to do the daily GM stuff. Myers would be the ideal candidate, but not sure he has interest. Steve Kerr type too....not saying I want him but a guy with that type of time in the league.

Certainly better than Nico, but it feels like since the Raptors won the title he's been, as my kids say, "mid" at best

We will see if it just your normal up and downs as a GM or if he best is behind him. I really think he got stuck in rut of having a good, but not great team. It is easy to say they should have blown things up and started over, but that is hard to do. Especially or a team like Toronto. Ownership has a voice in things too. I think when you lack a star, it can be a long journey trying to find one. It looks like he decided to try to be an average to slighty above average team and hoped to luck their way into a star like they did with Leonard. I was personally a fan of RJ and Barrett moves. Poetl blew up in their faces. But when you are just trying to keep the ship steady waiting for that big move, some of these decisions make some sense.

Hopefully, he'll have better success his third time around than Joe Dumars did his second time.

My impression is that he's been pretty good at finding gems in lower draft positions and UDFAs. The single best deal he did was to trade for Leonard after Kawahi got sideways with Pop and the San Antonio management team. One and done, but it got Masai a ring and upped his reputation.

Lively made an appearance on the Turner/Stewart podcast. Not a lot of Mavs specific stuff but he mentioned that he is working on his leg strength right now. Taking it day by day. Slow process.

Sadly, he might become the next Greg Oden. Personally, I have accepted this as a fact. I hope I am wrong though... 'Lively is just a bonus'. Once I changed my mindset to that, it made it easier to talk about him in the proper context. I don't know what his trade value would be around the league, but I've recently had the thought of trading him for pick 14-20 in this years draft and taking Jayden Quaintance. That seems to be the area he's being mocked. I don't know that Lively has that kind of value though... The reason it's worth considering is you get a 18 year old Big that resets the contract decision you'll have on Lively, who I think will never be a full time player. Quaintance is still not 100% back from his ACL tear in February 2025, but for me is worth the risk in a Lively for Quaintance swap. Very unlikely on several fronts. Lively probably doesn't have FRP trade value and might very well be in Masai's plans for the build around Coop. Either way, if you change your mindset to 'anything from Lively is a bonus', you won't be as disappointed.

I don't think I will ever forgive Dumont's role in the Nico trade. Also, rightly or wrongly I have a deep mistrust of the family. With that being said, he has really beefed up the executive team. A hall of famer in Weltz. Masai has been one of the best GM's. I do not know much about Ethan Casson but he is a guy who has been around in leadership positions. They have definitely invested in talent.

Damn, with the GM hire today, I’m seeing actual signs of competence and professionalism. I really don’t like Dumont or his family but they seem to be getting their act together basketball wise. Maybe they’re serious about rectifying their initial missteps and winning back the fans.
